  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

In need of a lighter

Well I wouldn't say I'm really in need of one but after seeing a soft flame lighter used a few times I'm curious to give that a whirl, also interested in a triple flame torch, but that can wait since my Lotus torch works fine for now so this was mostly posted as a suggestion to what brands offer a soft flame lighter or something? Just not sure what else to put since posting websites seems kinda off limits...

Craig_Mac also recommended the Xi on the chat box thingy and he said that ran around 40$ so I might be on the lookout next time I hit a B&M or maybe it was Mac_Craig I dunno
Yup, this was the one I was referring to

Like I said I would try them out first as out of a dozen I have seen two or three that don't relight like they are supposed to.

Yeah, buy a Xikar, that way when it stops working in a week you can send it back, wait 2 weeks, and you'll get another one for free. Then a month later you can do it again. Great customer service, but I'll never buy another one of their chitty Chinese lighters agian. Same lighter, different label at my gas station for $5.

i sense some sarcasm here :grinFU: hahaha, jk.

i love my xikars. ive had my xikar eris for 8 months now without any problems. recently, i have been looking into a xikar flintfire II ($60-70) or IM double corona ($100+). or you can go all out w/ s.t. dupont ($150++ yes, i meant to put the extra + b/c they can get 'spensive).

Yeah I'
m not a fan of Xikar lighters. I have 4 that do not work. And plenty of other brands that do. For me, I'll pass.

I'm partial to the porsche design soft flame ones myself. (my xikar torch works great and has for over two years, but I usually use soft flame unless I'm outside or like last weekend, everyone forgot their lighter :) and used my extra one)

I've had quite the opposite experience.
I've had my EX carbon for 2 years and it has worked flawlessly every single time I light up. I have had my cheapy xikar executive warrantied once, but after using only good butane it has been flawless for about 2 years also.

:dunno:

I love my IM Corona Double Corona, (review).

I will say, as much as I generally dislike Prometheus products, their model is quite nice as well and has a double jet soft flame. The IM works okay in wind, suprisingly better than I thought, but to be honest, at some point you just need a torch. The EX is a bit better, but it definitely isn't wind proof.

I could have written this myself. Xikar lighters are junk. I have sent one back three times. The last time it quit working after using maybe 1/4 of a fuel fill up. When I wrote them they told me I have to buy compressed air and blow it it. So after the hassel of sending it back three times (postage, going to the post office, buying a mail pak) they tell me to go buy compressed air. I told them I would rather buy 20 Ronson JetLites for the same price. They last me around 6 months each. I throw them away after I am done.

I have had quite a few lighters and all I can say is Xikar was the worst. What good is a lifetime replacement warranty if I can't even get it to work for one lighters worth of fuel and have to keep sending it back?

Buy something else. :cbig:

Wow, I have had the same Ronson for years. I use good fuel in it and it works just fine like the rest of my lighters(xikar, blue rhino, alec bradley, ect...). If you are throwing them away every 6 months something doesn't sound right.

So what would you recommend for the original poster to get then? These posts are much more productive when help is offered as well along with the bashing of a company. And don't mind dprice, he's just biter lately :applause:

I have a Xikar EX and it's great. Highly recommended. I've been eying the IM Corona Double that Charlie linked as my next lighter purchase. That thing is sweet!

Glad that the Ronson lighters last forever for you. I use good fuel as well and usually the top that breaks off. For $3 each I just throw it away. I am not using ten other lighters at the same time.
The point being, that for the price and fuctionality, the Ronsons are a great value. Xikar is not. If you want me to give more suggestions other then "just don't buy Xikar" then after the Ronson (which I did mention) I have had the best luck with Blazers and matches.
