  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

In need of a lighter

The Xikar Exodus series are nice and really hefty. I have one, and I like it. However, I prefer a Zippo with a Vector soft flame insert. And in all seriousness, Djeeps are disposable soft flame lighters with a really big, adjustable flame and a huge fuel supply. All for about 2 bucks. I always carry one as a back up for whichever "good" lighter I happen to be carrying.

I could have written this myself. Xikar lighters are junk. I have sent one back three times. The last time it quit working after using maybe 1/4 of a fuel fill up. When I wrote them they told me I have to buy compressed air and blow it it. So after the hassel of sending it back three times (postage, going to the post office, buying a mail pak) they tell me to go buy compressed air. I told them I would rather buy 20 Ronson JetLites for the same price. They last me around 6 months each. I throw them away after I am done.

I have had quite a few lighters and all I can say is Xikar was the worst. What good is a lifetime replacement warranty if I can't even get it to work for one lighters worth of fuel and have to keep sending it back?

Buy something else. :cbig:
You wouldn't believe how many people don't know how to recharge a lighter properly and if they don't then the lighter is useless. I compressed air helps if the lighter has impurities that have clogged it up...if you recharge a lighter with air/impurities still in the lighter it's not going to work very well. Purging it of all trapped air or butane is the only way to keep the lighter in working order. Also, when recharging the lighter if the nozzle isn't just right you are only charging it with butane with some air at the same time...there should never be any blowback as you're charging. It took me awhile to get the technique down where I don't have any issues at all like I used.

Not saying that your lighter might have really been a POS but try again and purge everything out of it...purging takes more than one time to get all of the old butane out.
