  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I've been a cigar smoker now for several years now and while I enjoy it immensely, I recently ran across an older gentleman smoking a pipe. As I passed and caught the aroma of the smoke, I was immediately brought back to my childhood and memories of my grandfather who always smoked a pipe back in the day. That one moment really got me looking into and doing some research on getting into pipes.

Man I thought there was a lot of info to take in when I got into cigars...lol

Anyway...just wanted to say hi over on this side of the board.
I'm looking forward to learning more about pipes and getting into something else that will make my wife roll her eyes at me...lol

Cheers!

Welcome! I have been into pipes about 6 months now so I'm still a noob myself. There is such a huge variety of tobaccos available for the pipe and I find it a nice change of pace from the cigars.

I'm still really new to the world of pipes but I'm certainly enjoying my travels so far. And as Rob said, the newbie pipe trade thread is great! There are some brothers lurking that are more than happy to "help" you down the next slope ...

All I can add is good luck. There are a large amount of brothers willing to "guide" you down the slop, or, rather, shove you with a large amount of force. Rest assured, there is a thread about pipe stories and other do's and don't's that will help you with the learning. Feel free to ask any question you might have. It will get answered.

Again, good luck.

Well, I went to the post office and they won't ship tobacco and I can't lie on a customs form, so I stopped by the 2 ups stores and they won't ship to an APO address. Can I get your state side address I can send it to, or, do you have any other suggestions.
Rule number 3, no good deed ever goes unpunished.

Weird...I've had people send stuff before with no issues.
I'll PM you my home address...the wife is coming to visit in a few weeks, maybe she can bring it out with her.

There are few things that are more relaxing than sitting back with a pipe. The one thing to keep in mind, is that pipe smoking is about slow and steady. If you try to go to fast you'll end up with a hot hand searing pipe and a sore tougne.

As I discovered, LOL

Yesterday, as I tamped down the ash, I pushed it down too far and, when i took a draw, got a mouthful of burning tobacco. Summabitch, that hurt!

I do find that the pipe produces a smoke that is a lot more moist and I have to draw on it faster to keep it lit. I may not be packing it tight enough.

I figure it's the kind of rookie mistake that, once made, is never made again. Often, experience is the best teacher.
