  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey fellas,

I'm too much of a PC guy so could use some help! LOL

I got my wife/daughter an iPad for Christmas and will be doing some traveling coming up... what's the best free way to put my own videos on the iPad? Do you need to encode them and put them in itunes? Is there any video player you can use and just have mpeg files or anything like that?

I know I could easily find the answers myself but just don't have the google time right now...

Thanks!

Download Handbrake (free software). This will convert any video file you have to an iPad compatible format (you'll see the auto settings). Then just load the videos through iTunes.

Hope this helps.

AlohaStyle,

I agree with Logistics91. And just to clarify, "handbrake" is compatible with both PC, and Mac. It converts just about any video file into an .MP4 file, which is playable on most all Apple devices (including an appleTV).

Very easy, and very simple to use. If you should run into issues, please PM me. There are plenty of youtube videos online walking people through HandBrake.

Dont be alarmed, it is not a difficult program. It may take a little bit of time to convert the video to an .MP4 file. The way I figure it is 1 to 1 minute of playtime ratio.

Once your done with all of that, then load it into iTunes, and select the video for syncing.

Side note: make sure and select a "preset" on the right (inside handbrake) to auto select the file size, and screen size. If your using an iPad to play the items, make sure and select it under the devices. If you want to save some room, you can customize the video quality. That way it wont take alot of room on the iPad, and you can load more videos on there!

Hope you and your family enjoy your safe travels!

Regards,
-Chrisso

There used to be some video player apps that would allow you to play MPEG. I think it was VLC Player. It may have been pulled from the market awhile back though.

I use CineX player on my ipad. It's a video player that doesn't require file conversion so you don't have to worry about video and sound quality issues that happen with conversion -- and it's only a couple bucks in the app store (you also don't have to jailbreak your device)! :)
