  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience coding iPhone applications. If so I wanted to suggest we team up and make a nice applications similar to a cigar journal which would allow you to take a picture of your cigar or the band and store it along with note such as size, wrapper, star rating. Very similar to how iTunes works. I think this would be a great and handy application for us cigar smokers. We can even keep track of the cigars we have in our humidors so when we are out and about we can see what we need more of. Possibly also the ability to to use skyhook to locate B&M's which are close to us and maybe online ordering of cigars through trusted and reputable vendors.

Thoughts and Ideas are welcomed. I'm in the process of working on my Ph.D applications so I wouldn't be able to start right away maybe middle of december this is why I would like someone who has experience programming to help me out.

I've taken a look at the SDK a when it was first released but my research has gotten the best of me. To be quite honest I don't think this would be something I would be able to undertake by myself.

I've been thinking for a while about what I'd want in one...my wife has a kickass app she uses for wine that lets he take a photo of the label, which would be great in a cigar app. Personally, I'd want one that rates on a "5-star" personal rating system, but it'd probably make more sense to allow the typical 100-point rating scale.

Anyways....if someone makes one, I'll buy a copy!

Could you let me know the name of the wine app maybe I could use that as a reference.

If we do this, we should check with Apple first to make sure they won't reject a tobacco-related app, since all apps have to be distributed through their store. Also, I'd like to be able to port this app to Google's Android, if possible. Ideally, we could have a platform-independent backend for the app. Unfortunately, Android apps are written in Java, but compiling Java into a native iPhone app seems to be messy (although possible.)

I was just thinking about that last night to see if it would even be possible with apple's ToS. Another thought would be to create a simple website which is iphone compatible which would allow you to log into your account (or your humidor) and browse through there.

Sheep - it's funny that this thread comes up! Especially since we were discussing this Friday night!

This would be a great thing in my opinion!

If you could translate this into Latin, I would have a better chance understanding what the Hell you just said!!! hehe

As Jimmy Buffett said "I'm just an analog guy in a digital world".
