  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Is the house cigar at your local B&M any good?

Man, You lucky bastages with local B&Ms!! I have to drive over an hour for anything decent. I`m with Gale. NHC is probably the closest for me, and the EL is just dandy.

Uncelnino,

No I haven't been to the shop - I snatched that shot from online.

I know I will probably try one at some point.

CI has a few good ones in the legend series, There is another store about a 1/2 hr from me that has some real good house blends, but I don't know who blends them. Everytime they come in, they are snatched right up.

Strong, pigtailed & shag-footed, unbanded & very very tasty.

(& I'm telling ya'll - ya gotta try the Spanish Galleon Corojo - you will NOT be disappointed!)

Cheroot by La Flor Dominicana. This shop is the only one in the world you can get it. It is a 100% pure ligero cigar that Litto used to hand out to his friends.
That sounds fantastic, might have to work something out with you once I get things rolling here.

One of the better house sticks I have had (not counting the ELs and ELOs from NHC) was the Habana Leon "A" from Cigar King out of Scottsdale, AZ. It is an older Pepin blend with great depth and complexity. I have only had the pleasure of smoking one size, but nonetheless that stick was nothing short of amazing.

My local B&M has a whopping ZERO house sticks, so I thought I would just chime in with that aforementioned answer.

One of my local shops, Cigar King, has a huge selection of house blends - take up half their humidor.

The stick that Cyrann speaks of, "Habana Leon" is truely a great smoke. As far as house blends go, it's probably the best I've had. Flavorful and complex.

There is also one called "Hirsh y Garcia" blended by the Cigar King owner Mitchell Hirsh and Pepin, amazing flavor in that one.

The "Nacionales W" is a great cigar, spicey, lots of flavor from a medium body.

Sancti Spiritus" is another Pepin cigar, haven't tried this one yet.

Then there is the "Cuban Diplomat", also a Pepin blend and it's nice, available in either Corojo Rosado or Connecticut shade leaf. Both are great, similar blend to the Havana Soul (see below).

The last Pepin rolled cigar is the "Havana Soul", interesting flavor for sure, only size I've had is the Corona Gorda, and it had a great burn, lit it and never had to touch it again.

There is also the "Cuban Heirloom" rolled by Nick Perdomo. Very nice smoke, rated a 90 I think by CA. This one is definately worth trying, more full bodied, lots of great almost sweet flavors.

The "Nicaraguan Heirloom" is another Perdomo cigar, Connecticut shade wrapper, more earthy to me. Nice any-time smoke.

Then there's the "Spanish Heirloom" from Camacho. Haven't tried this one, can't speak on it.

There are others as well.

Our local B&M has the Jim Reed Cigar. Jim was one of those iconic guys that you could always count on to be at the shop. A mason by trade he owned his own business and drove very fast BMW's motorcycles when harleys became too slow for him. Jim had a long gray beard, tats on both arms and would scare the hell out of you if you ran into him on a dark street and didn't know him. But if you knew him you knew he would give you his last cigar or the shirt off his back if you were in need. Jim passed away quite suddenly making one last trip to the shop between chemo treatments just to smell the smoke from the cigars. He left a wife and two young kids behind. The Jim Reed cigar is something really special. Oh it tastes OK but all profits go to a fund to put the kids through college. We keep a picture of Jim up in the shop to remind us that cigars are made to be smoked today because sometimes tomorrow just isnt guaranteed.

Some of you have received these from me. They come with a small picture of a tough looking dude with a long grey beard. Enjoy them.

A thread about a pass for local house cigars turns into trading (outside the Trading Zone) and non-sponsored advertising.:sadstare:

In an attempt to get this back on track, is anyone interested in putting together a set of samplers?

Here is what I am envisioning - feel free to suggest a better idea (other than with respect to point #5), as I'm sure there out there...

1.) We get five (5) people to commit to participate.
2.) Each participant buys five (5) sticks of a particular house B&M brand that they want to share with the other participants.
3.) Each participant sends the sticks to one person who creates five (5) samplers (each one to contain one stick from each B&M).
4.) Sampler bags are distributed to the participants.
5.) Cigars are enjoyed, reviews with pics are posted, and the OP is praised as a man of vision and inimitable taste and refinement.

As I am new here, I am perhaps not the best person to run this. I can easily understand and appreciate any apprehension. If someone else wants to run point, more power to them (and less work for me!).

Let me know what everyone thinks.

Sounds neat, Matt, though ye might want to post it in the Trading Zone...
Mea culpa. If people are interested, sounds like we can start a new thread (or asked to have this one moved). Probably should wait to see if there is requisite interest, don't ye think (note that the "don't ye think" is part of new policy to speak to Moro only in Moro-ese  )?

Nae, just start it (I'd do it had Mexico not have the impediment to send tobacco to the U.S.). I'd like to add, speak to me in Moro-ese anytime, mate!

Like Lac Man, I'm lucky: my local b&m is Holt's. They have a gazillion house brands, and most of them are excellent, frequently made by Don Pepin.
