  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

JFR Cigars,(Not Pepin) anyone tried?

Mitch

These are the "Just For Retailers" brand rolled by Pepin, I was in a local shop and picked up a couple, they look and smell fantastic. Haven't burned one yet, waiting for a friend to share one with, all my buds are out of town right now so I might have to light up alone.

Anyway tried these yet? I've been on the Pepin train of late, trying lots from them, and I like them alot. Tat P series is my new daily smoke. .. Thanks BBall.

Also, are the Tat East Coast, West Coast and Havana VI the same blends and wrappers, or are they different?

Thanks in advance.

I tried one just a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was a great cigar, especially for the price ($3.90 if I remember right). I will definately be picking some more up.

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try the east coast, west coast or the havana blends but I've heard reviews saying the west coast blend is the one to get.

i think the east and west coast are the same blends, just different vitolas. not the same as the rest of the red labels though.

and can you get any more of the JFR's? I've been looking around here and I can't find them at all.

My local had nat and mad topedo's for $7, didn't notice other sizes, but didn't look either. If you want to talk to them they are:
Tobacco World - Pompano Beach, FL (954) 957-9293

If they have what you want at a price you can live with, PM me and I'll pick it up and ship to you. If they ship direct you may be able to avoid FL sales tax.

thanks for the info. based upon the info i've seen, that price is about double on what they should be. but since i can't find them elsewhere, that may be my only option.

Try the JFC at CI they tasted the same as the JFR imho, the only difference that I could see was that the JFR had an unfinished foot.

The JFR sell like hotcakes at my local shop! I really like them too - the salomone vitola is my fav. Of course, since I prefer maddies, that's what I smoke in this line, but the naturals are good too. With the Colorado confiscatory tobacco tax (40%) we pay between $5 and $8 per stick depending on size. I think they're a good value. Deep flavors, well made and mid-range price.

The Tatuaje Havana VI blend is the base for the East & West limitadas. Pete told me he added a bit more ligero to the blend for these sticks to make them a tad fuller, and I think he hit the mark. The binder & wrapper are the same as the other VI vitolas. I've been smoking a lot of the West version and really like them, although the large size is not my preferred format.

How sure are you guys that these are a Pepin product? I love them, but it seems I would have heard about them being rolled by Pepin before just now.

From everything I've read and have been told, the JFR cigars are NOT made by Pepin.

They are--so I've been told--made in Esteli, Nicaragua, by Eduardo Fernandez and Pedro Martin at Tabacalera Tropical, but you won't find any mention of the JFR on Tropical's website, and you won't find any mention of Tropical on the JFR packaging. It seems as if they've tried very hard to conceal the actual origins of the cigar...and if that's the case then they're doing it pretty well.

Here are some facts:
  • Don Pepin left Cuba in 2001 and went to Nicaragua.
  • His got a job at Eduardo Fernandez's tobacco-growing company, Aganorsa.
  • In 2002, Aganorsa merged with Pedro Martin's cigar-producing company, Tropical Tobacco.
  • The resulting company was named Tabacalera Tropical, where Pepin continued to work until some time in the second half of 2002.
  • Pepin opened his own cigar-producing company, El Rey de los Habanos in Miami in late 2002.
  • To this day, Pepin still purchases a lot of tobacco from Tabacalera Tropical

So what's the connection between JFR and Pepin? Well supposedly--or so the rumor goes--Don Pepin created and blended the JFR while he still worked for Tabacalera Tropical, but he doesn't have anything to do with the actual manufacturing of the cigar.

I also heard from locals that this is the same tobaco used for the Illusione line. I even picked up both in the shop to compair and they seem to be close.

I found the JFR to be a good smoke although mild for me. I can taste a clear difference between the east and west coast verocru. I love them both but just invested in two more cabs of the east coast I like them so much.

Looks like we got a pepin whore in the making. Not a bad thing Mitch. Not a bad thing at all. Keep tryin them. They're all good. I'm not sure if i gave you an El Rey de los Habanos stick. I just had my first a few days ago and it was awesome! To me, it rivals the flavors of the regualr Cabaiguans. I think you'll enjoy that El Centurion too. DOn't wait too long on that one because it's killer good.
