  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Well I decided to try and prep some of this to give it a shot. Ive smoked through a tin of Best Brown flake recently which is what this plug becomes Ive read.

Major differences first. The plug seems much more dense. Its more moist and has a different scent compared to the tin note of BBF. The plug has a sweeter more straight tobacco smell. I chewed on some and it has a smoother taste, had less bitterness than BBF and sweeter tasting. Weird because this supposed to be the same tobacco. Also the plug seems to be lacking a topping or something that BBF has, maybe it doesn't get the "Lakeland treatment".

I have cut it into flakes of varying thickness mostly because the piece im working with came with less than straight even cuts. I am letting the flakes dry for a couple hours before I pack a pipe for my midday commute.

Got to say, I love this stuff once it dries out. Considerably different than best brown flake and i would bet if smoked side by side you wouldn't know one becomes the other. I have noticed that the plug is decently more compressed compared to the flakes. That has got to impact the flavor and smoking experience in a big way.

Oh yeah I forgot they had it. I wrote them off because I wanted it in bigger than one ounce servings. They told me its all diced up already. I wanted actual plug tobacco not a plug someone else cut up.

There is Mars Pipe and Cigar. I tried buying from him since he is local to me, but didn't want to deal and doesn't take mastercard. So I went with an awesome B&M retailer called Wingenroths.
