  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I have tried the La Aurora Preferido Cameroon and liked it. I noticed the regular La Aurora, this is what it looks like.

What do you guys think about this one?

The Cameroon is fantastic.

The reg line is good too, but I would suggest trying the 1495 series (has some rum-barrel aged filler) and the 1994, which has a great cameroon wrapper over the same barrel-aged filler in a corona that packs a nice kick.

Also - As a less expensive alternative to the preferido tubo is the robusto which can be had for about $10.

I received a couple and have enjoyed them both. I didn't pay for either, and don't know much about them except I smoked the whole thing.

So far all the La Aurora cigars I've smoked I liked except for the Barrel Aged. I will give that barrel aged line another chance though since I only smoked one corona from the line. Maybe the other vitolas are better?

As to the regular line like you have pictured. I believe I've smoked a few and I liked them I just didn't like them enough to buy a box.

There is a special edition or something to that effect La Aurora called the BME. I do not know if they sell them or not, but it is one of the best La Aurora cigars I have had. The 1903 editions, the Cameroon, the Ecuador, the 1945, the 100 Anos, and even the Barrel Age are great cigars also.
I have heard a lot of people say they don't care for the Barrel Age cigar, I personally think it is an aquired taste. I compare it to Jack Daniels or anything that has been charcoal mellowed, like some heavy rums have that taste also, due to the barrel it is aged in. The oak rum barrels are burnt to a charcoal almost before they use them to age rum, I am not sure but I think they do that so the rum does not soak into the wood o rmaybe just to get that charcoal mellowing taste.
I had a chance to talk with Jose Blanco at IPCPRA and taped it so will be able to do an article on his thoughts. They have some new product but I failed to go back the next day when Jose told me to come back and pick them up, so this reminds em to call him. I beleive they were lanceros, not sure. As everyone seemed to be coming out with some new products in Lanceros.
If you ever get to a La Aurora event ask Jose for a BME

I never noticed the rum taste, the charcoal mellow taste is prevelant, but the strength comes from the year that both the wrapper and the filler spent in a barrel fermenting. This process was used in Cuba years ago and La Aurora has used it before in filler for its cigars, but this is the first cigar ever that they aged the wrapper in the barrel, just a barrel load of fermented tobacco, if you get my meaning.

The 'Barrel Aged' is a bit too much of the rum taste.
The best one that I tried of that line was the Torpedo.

The barrel aged cigars are aged in rum barrels, hence the rum taste described above. I think you can definitely taste a bit of rum -- much more so than you can the cognac in Anejos.

The 100 anos and Perferido's are top notch. The 2006 Robusto dosn't have quite the flair of the figurado IMO, but is a bargin. If you like these check out Cigarbid.com, you can almost daily find tubed Perferidos for $9, the Robusto's for $5-$6 and the 100 Anos Churhills for about $9 as well. B&M prices on these are over the top.

100 anos baby. That was the cigar that did it for me. The one that set the hook. It was the churchill and couldn't find it for a year until Mitch sent me one. Then I finally won 10 on cbid yesterday. This is a very special cigar to me.

I never smoked one La Aurora that I didn't like. I stay away from booze cured cigars usually. So the barrel aged never looked even close to tempting.

I am betting the smokes pictured above are good. They say La Aurora don't they?

I'll second that 100 Anos kicks butt, but they were a one time production of I believe 100K of each size, and they will be gone forever when they are gone. I've already noticed the Beli's are harder to come by and expect them all to get scarce by the end of the year. Unless something changed from when they released this, it was not to become a regular production blend.

I actually just read something about the 100 Anos blend and they kept to their word that they would only make 300k. Though they did make that small special production of the perfectos. I read something about their supply dwindling on the tobacco for the blend and they do have some left but it might get mixed into something else different. I can't remember where the interview was but it was a Jose Blanco interview I think and they talked about the 100 Anos.

Just remembered. http://www.cigarweekly.com/magazine/interviews/03-10-2008/a-conversation-with-jose-blanco

Does anyone know the story on the Corona. I thought it was going to be 100K each of Robusto, Beli and Church, but Holts has a Corona on the site and I don't remember running across them anywhere else? Was it also an exclusive for them like the Figurado? Also, they state on the site they they have recieved their last shipment of these.

No other sites had them, but I think they are out of stock. They do have some Robustos left.
