  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

There are some Lanceros which are truly good. The lenght certainly gives ye time to sit back and enjoy, and the thin RG might be what some blokes are in the look for; but, I'm not one of 'em. I'd much rather enjoy a Robusto, which's thicker RG allows for a cooler smoke and a slower burn. Shorter, oui, but tell me them sticks do not last.

P.S. Green Bay crocs are the only crocs I'd consider getting. Go, Packers!

Plug alert! Lanceros are discussed heavily on My Blog. To further understand the so-called "Lancero-craze" and what makes the size so special we review two cigars of the same blend- one usually a robusto and the other a lancero; then we see what the differences are. The most recent review actually was the JDN Antano Robusto vs Lancero. It's not posted yet but I can tell you that the lancero is far and away better than the robusto.

Cubao lanceros are the best of the blend IMO. Really really good.

Oliva V is a must... El Triunfador, Holy Lance, Opus PL all rock too.

I'd still have to say that my favorite size is still a tie between robusto & corona gorda.

U kno, I never really liked the lancero. I usually go for something closer to a robusto. I suppose that it's simply what I'm used to. I've tried several, and am not generally impressed. To each his own!

My fave is easily the Illusione Hly lance. Second would be a tie between the Tat espciales and the tat red victorias. The triunfacdor is in teht op 5. Oliva V is good. Padilla 1932 is better.

This size has been around forever, but only we pinky up descerning smokers realy enjoy them, and those who are secure in their manhood, or womanhood in Wades case!

IMO, Lonsdales and Lanceros (although a fairly new size overall, I think Cohiba was the first true lancero, but it is really just a long lonsdale) have always been popular cigar sizes, in recent years larger cigars have become the new fad, I think you see "serious" cigar smokers that participate on these and other boards moving back to these more traditional sizes, but from what I have read and heard, the majority of cigar smokers are still smoking the larger ring gage smokes, and these newer huge ring gages seem to be the fad. IMHO.

I enjoy coronas, lonsdales, and lanceros, especially the Cohiba Lancero, and the Monte Cristo Especial, and I am happy to see more offerings from Non Cuban companies in this size range. If it is a fad I hope it sticks around and some of these limited production sticks become regulars in the lines.

The Lancero according to many is the true afficionado's cigar. It allows the greatest ratio of wrapper to filler and therefore should provide the most taste. I love lanceros and smoke many of them. The La Flor Double Ligero Lancero is a must, Rocky Sung Grown Lanceros are good as are the Summer collection. The new aurora preferido Lancero is also tasty. I have recently tried a new one, the Titan de Bronze Lancero and it i also very good and at a cheaper price point. I think the Lancero is here to stay as more and more people realize the advantages of the stick. JMHO

I like to think of the current lancero trend among serious cigar smoker as more of an awakening. I doubt I would have picked some up all on my own walking through a store but ending up on this site has opened my eyes. Hearing from various people what they think is good has caused me seek out things I would have been a little more apprehensive to grab when walking through a B&M.

I smoked an El Titan de Bronze Redemption Lancero last night. Not bad, but no way does it even come close to any Tat cigar! I'd smoke one again though. Not bad at about $5 a stick

I really believe you must develop a "different" smoking style to enjoy any lancero. If you smoke it like a churchill you will be greatly disappointed. I really have to take my time and concentrate on "sipping" the cigar to fully enjoy all the flavors a lancero can bring.

Also, something that is GREATLY underrated is how you light a cigar especially a lancero. If you rush and it burns hot...you might as well toss it. It will become bitter and you will only taste the flavors that come out at higher temps which usually are not pleasant. I am now a huge fan of the soft flame, charring the foot properly and very little draw when trying to light. That little bit of information has really enhanced my cigar smoking experience. :)

True as can be, Doc. Especially what reffers to lighting a lancero.

Think about it. Fidel Castro , who had anything his heart desired, choose a Lancero.
Litto Gomez , who has tobacco fields , rollers and is own company available to him choses a lancero for his personal size.

Many other TRUE smokers feel that the Lancero is the vitola of choice. Yes the wrapper / filler ratio is ideal but another reason many choose the Lancero is for performance.
They tend to stay lit longer than the fatter gauges and burn more evenly. The draw also seems to be much more natural.

Angry Bill if I knew you loved Lanceros, I would have sent you the Santiago Cabanas in that size instead of the robusto & Churchills.

I have found that the lancero cigars I have smoke burn razor sharp. All of them have great flavor, smoke volume and just a perfect smoke every time.
