So I've been looking into moving to Texas College Station for a Ph.D. I was also looking at a disco 3 today which I loved. However the dealership is about 90 miles from where I would be. I wanted to talk to people who have Land Rovers and see how far they are and if they think this is a smart idea. I heard the disco 3's are more reliable than the older LR's as well

Never had a Land Rover, but I had a Range Rover for about 6 months. I traded it in on a BMW M6 because it spent more time in the shop than on the road.

Land Rover usually lands very low on reliability tests. If you know that going in, then you'll be fine. If you expect a very reliable vehicle you may end up dissapointed. Outside that, they make a very capable and beautiful vehicle. I'm not sure how some of the new models have been faring since LR was sold by Ford.

Land Rover is very capable offroad, but reliability is an issue. I believe most people drive them just for the "look at me" factor. There's definitely more SUVs that cost the same and are more reliable.
