  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Leaky meerschaum mortise but more likely just stem....

So I was trying to smoke a bowl out of my meer on Wednesday. I had a nicely packed bowl and tried lighting. I got no smoke and just cold air. So upon further inspection I found out the stem was leaking. I stuck an actual bandaid as a temporary bandaid fix to the leaking issue. It allowed me to happily smoke my pipe on my way home.

Is there a good way to fix this?

I will post up pics later. I suspect its from a low end carver in Turkey and not exactly top notch work. It smokes nice but the mortise and stem aren't exactly a work of art in my eyes. It was a going away gift from the guys I worked with while stationed there. So if I'm a bit SOL I'll just put it somewhere for sentimental ownership.

reviving a dead thread, i thought it was my packing that was the issue but i think it was just that air was leaking. can i use super glue to just kill all problems with the seal or is there a better way? Now that i understand i was just fine on my packing methods, i'm a little more confident. The two fingers over the bowl was a key tip.
