  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I'm looking for good lighters.. I currently own a Colibri single torch, but in the wind it doesn't light well.. So as taxes arrive I want to buy a lighter that will be worth it ..

Any ideas on places that have good deals ?

Some Duponts are soft flame and some are torch.

You will get a ton of opinions on which lighter you should buy.

Cheapest lighter is a ronson and some people swear by them and only use those because they feel it's pointless to spend more if you don't have to.

Then you get in to the Colibri price point, which offers many torch lighters in the $30-$50 range and have a year or two warranty.

Next would be the Xikar category, a lot of offerings from $30 to $100 with a lifetime warranty. The Escalade or Vitara would be my recommendation in Xikar lighters.

You then get to the higher priced lighters such as Lamborghini and even higher priced with Duponts. These lighters most people buy because they like the look and style of the lighter. They don't necessarily work that much better than any less expensive lighter, but that is where preference comes in to play.

Bottom line, pick a price point you are comfortable with, then figure out whether you want single, double or triple torch, what size tank(large or small capacity), do you want a punch on it, etc... and go from there.

Solid answer right there. Depending on what you want to spend there are many different lighters to choose from.

I happen to always resort to my Ronsons. I have both a jet and soft flames, all of which can be found locally at WalMarts and CVS. I currently am looking at getting a nice flint action soft flame (old boy style), mostly because as Criag mentioned above, I like the styling of it.

Now for deals watch Field * Supply , they will throw up some pretty nice deals on the daily. Check ebay if you find something you really want or Cbid I hear is a great place.

I've heard that Blazer lighters are very good, and to boot quite inexpensive. Opinions?
Used to be. I moved away from them because their piezo igniters fail ridiculously easy. Last year I dropped my two Blazers within a week of each other and they never worked again. For a similar type lighter try the Xikar Tech. I have a dual flame model. It has a huge tank and has a very nice adjustment. I also have an Element by Xikar; a very nice lighter. My only complaints are it takes a lot of pressure to hold it open and the valve cover is close to the flame. It can get pretty hot. My new favorite though is the Lotus L48, dual flame. This thing is sweet and lights first time, every time. I use Vector butane exclusively now.

I ended up going with a soft flame and a triple torch from colibri being that I have so many butane tanks readily available to me, I saw some really nice duponts but i had to buy more butane and wasn't about to do that haha .. But thanks for all the insight guys!

JMO, but go to Wal-Mart and get a Ronson Jetlite.
I got one of these at Wal-Mart last week and I was disappointed. Lit the first few times then gave me issues. Good thing it was only $4.
Mine lasted two weeks then just stopped working. :/
I own many expensive lighters including ST DuPont.
My everyday, has never failed lighter is Ronson. I keep them laying around everywhere. Only ones that ever broke where filled with xikar fuel. Saw a thread on Vector fuel so I bought some. I purged the broken ronsons and refilled with Vector. All working 100% again.
Buy a Ronson

Empty and fill with vector and your good to go

Bummer. I've been using the same Ronson for about 4 yrs. now. I agree that you need to use a good fuel though. I always used Lava but now they stopped making it so now I use Vector.

I am about to do a review on a DuPont Mini and my first impressions did not live up to the hype. Maxi might be better, but the mini seems pricy for a made in China single torch with no frills at a list price of $160 and $100ish if you hunt around. It is a nice lighter, only referring to overall value.
Not done with the lighter yet, again my initial impressions.
