BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
Like to smoke but don't know too much! Any tips?

A journal, in one form or another, has been a great learning tool for allot of us.
well here is what i did right when i started. i bought samplers that arent just one brand then smoke em. you will soon find what you like and dont like. and definitely dont think that because it cost more its better. thats one way to spend a ton and end up with sticks you dont like. so start out small. and guaranteed that soon you will have a large collection because this is one great hobby
Welcome bro, get to your local cigar shop and find some smokes in your price range and start trying new stuff! That's half the fun of cigar smoking, you could smoke for months and never try the same thing twice. Look at the reviews on this site to help find taste profiles that you like, but nothing does the trick like a little r&d.
Drop a hint to the wife or girlfriend (or both!) that you'd like a Cigar of the Month membership for Christmas (or birthday, or Hanukkah, or pick-your-excuse day) from Cigars International or other on-line retailer. You'll get five (or 10 if they're really generous) smokes a month in the mail, a random selection, including a nice newsletter describing the smokes, some general cigar knowledge, and a place to make your own notes about each stick.
It's a great way to get introduced to a wide range of smokes for a very reasonable cost (zero to you, hah!). They won't all be top-of-the-line sticks, but rarely is there a complete dog in the bunch. Be sure and let them rest a couple weeks in the humi after receipt, it often makes a difference in the taste and draw vs one right off the truck.

i do this every time I have a new stick. I also tape the band above my review and when I ferst started smoking I would bring my book to my B&m and show him what i liked and then he helped me make pics based on that. Oh Yeah :welcome:
Welcome to BOTL!! I'm new to cigars as well, and you have to find out what you like by trying a bunch of different varieties. Slowly, but surely, you will find a preference, and stay loosely within that realm.
