As the title implies this could be a long winded multi topic post that if deemed in the wrong area please move it too the proper place.
Many years ago, about four decades for me now, I was a bit of a wee lad, who’s grand father on my mother’s side was in the Air Force. This fine gentleman smoked not only cigarettes but cigars as well. I remember as a child the smell and aroma of those cigars and still to this day am not 100 percent sure what brand they were. Nonetheless as a late teenager I began like many to smoke cigarettes and carried over my intrigue of cigars to that habit/hobby and during the late eighties into mid to late 1990s always kept around a few cigars all the while smoking cigarettes. I became a fan of the Bahia maduros at that time for their flavor and how deeply relaxing and satisfying they were.
In my late 30s I started wondering why in the world I was still smoking cigarettes and as prices began jumping up I simply couldn’t bring myself to burning up all that money when I could be smoking cigars for less money.
Well, it took a few years..... Foir to be exact and on Christmas Eve 2016 I stopped. Cold turkey didn’t and have not picked up a cigarette since. Being honest, yes there are times when I think you know, a cigarette would be awesome right now. Then I get another cup of coffee and all is well in the world.
Top aide in my no cigarette lifestyle I started acquiring some pipes and pipe tobaccos in January of this year. I know, I hear you laughing, slippery slope here we come right? Truth be told it’s still a LOT cheaper and more satisfying to me to be smoking a cigar or pipe tobacco than any cigarette to this day. I now have most all of MM corn cob offerings and have slowed down my tobacco acquisitions for them so I can take my time and learn what I’m actually doing and discover what it is I like and dislike. I have found some good stuff that my inexperienced pallet enjoys and am amazed by what’s still out their I have not tried.
I read. I read a lot. When not at work I’m usually behind a pc a tablet or my phone reading reviews. Some have been spot on and others not so much. Either way the wealth of first hand information is worth more to me especially being new to all this than I could ever afford to pay for. For that I just give thanks. So when your debating on posting a review or comment about something you like or dislike please remember it could help some old noob like me.
Now onto this weeks events.
There is a fine gentleman I probably would not have met if not for this site that goes by the name Genuine. Unprovoked and unasked for he seen a post I made about recent tobacco acquisitions and inquired with me of which pipe tobaccos I have not had and offered to send me some. At first I thought it was a fishing scam and walked softly carrying a big stick as is my nature. I offered to pay for shipping and he refused to allow me to do so. This guy is too kind and certainly deserves respect. At work Friday and I get a message from my wife, you have a strange package in the mail.... me being an optimist thinking well okay I will be home in a few hours so it’s okay. Once home and package in hand I eagerly open it to not only find he sent me ample samples he sent a nice surprise of Elizabethan Mixture as well!
First time my mailbox got hit and dented and I know some may think it doesn’t mean a lot, to me it does. He smacked up my mailbox and I now am humbled as I have been for years losing faith in humanity as a whole and I realize this is one long rambling post my point is this,
It’s sometimes the small things that count. In my work life I see a lot of the bad parts of humanity and it makes one appreciate the little things that people say or do and even something as simple as being a gentleman and kind like Genuine has been gives me hope that this world still has people that truly understand we all are in this together.
If you made it this far, thank you. I simply felt th need to share this.
