I was wondering if anyone knows of any half way decent desktops on the cheap with a depth of no more than 15". Everything I find is around 17, is there anything smaller? :dunno: I need to fit it in a new entertainment center I just bought. I mean cheap as in <$300, no screen or anything else is needed, I was planning on using my 42" LCD and the rooms surround sound. :help:

Why not get a plain CPU and avoid the extra costs?

Less than $300 is tough for new hardware. Mac Mini's are about $600 new. Dell Studio Hybrids are about $500 new. Maybe a build-it-yourself or a used desktop might fit that price.

I was hoping to get something that could run Autocad and Photoshop fairly quickly. Nothing top of the line or anything lol, just something better and smaller than my 5yr old desktop

Not always that easy, newer CPU's dont always work with older motherboards.

I am not sure if you'll be able to find a standard case that is smaller than 15" deep. I am sure they are out there, but as far as the cheaper cases go the micro atx cases are still around 16".

A search for "barbone" computers should yeild you a ton of results. They usually won't have operating systems though.

I think the studio hybrid is what I will end up getting. I will wait for a sale or something unless someone comes up with something better in the mean time.

Okay, let me get this straight. You want:

A - smaller-than-standard case
B - able to run Photoshop & AutoCad fairly quickly
C - priced under $300

Is that correct? Do you need it with to come with Windows as well, or do you have your own copy?

I think I have a copy of windows. Fairly quickly, by the way, compared to a 5yr old dell. I don't have the specs at work but I can update later with them.

I always recommend the Dell Outlet online, day to day some good deals pop up on there.
That's just what I was going to recommend. They have a lot of options and you should also search online for dell outlet coupons. They come and go pretty fast but you can find 15% off coupons every few weeks or so. They also have other coupons which I can't remember what they all are, but I held out for the 15% coupon when I bought a Dell XPS laptop last year.

I have no complaints of using their outlet but their customer service isn't the best if you need help. If their desktops are anything like their laptop section, inventory comes/goes within minutes if the item is popular so be ready to pounce if you find something you like. But if you aren't looking for a top of the line model, you should be okay.

The Dell outlet has a lot for under 300 but not sure on the case sizes. Toss in a video card for autocad and you should be good to go
