  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Looking for advice or ideas

I am hoping someone here might be able point me in the right direction. First off we are trying to buy a home. We have a 13 yr old son with arthrogryposis which is a congenital birth defect affecting muscles, joints, and ligaments. He is unable to use his arms or hands and is unable to bend his legs. He can walk but stairs are out of the question. Which brings me to our dilemma, the one house in our town of about 8000 that is on one level with no steps is being bought out from under us. I have decided our only option left might be to build a house to suit him and are looking for programs that can help with this. Habitat for humanity would build the house and it would be interest free which is awesome however the nearest hfh is two hours away and can't help us. We're at a loss as we are needing a home that will suit him for the rest of his life essentially. As he will never be able to live on his own. Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated as i'm thoroughly frustrated!

There's a group that's been doing a lot of help rebuilding houses here in Joplin called Samaritans Purse. Not sure how they work/where they're from, but I have noticed them around building some houses. Might check into that.

+1, check Samaritans purse. Also, many areas have local organizations that will assist in modifying a home, rather than building a new home. Worth looking into, anyway.

I'm going to contact sumaritans purse for sure! I know there are organizations that will help modify a home but he loses his balance so easy on slopes and whatnot we really need a home that is slope/stair free. As he gets bigger, he's 150 lbs now, it's going to get next to impossible for us to help him up. He fell at school yesterday and had to have stitches. I know he'll always fall occassionally and get banged up or broken bones, he's broke his right arm nine times from falls, but convincing his mom that it's just going to happen is another thing altogether! Thank you guys!
