Depending on the experience you want to have there are plantations not far away that have rooms, Oak Alley is across the river but not far from the bridge. You are basically in the suburbs of New Orleans so it would be easier to tell you what parts of town to stay away from.
It really depends on the $ you want to spend and how you are traveling. Don't expect public transportation and Uber may be iffy, out that way.
