We were transitioning to the M107s in EOD from the M82s as I was departing and can't say that I ever got to shoot one before my separation. I do know I could hit small bombs with them at a good distance (HB876s) with the M82A1s. I think we sighted them on an airfield using concrete blocks that day for a quick and dirty zero. They are actually too big of a projectile to be shooting at these little things and we couldn't achieve a reliable detonation. I shot one across the desert three times before saying "fuck it someone else shoot them". We needed something smaller and more along the lines of a 7.62AP round, we were shooting .50BMG API but the point of impact was too large compared to a smaller round to achieve a detonation on the mines.

Waiting on pix from a friend, but today was incredible! Took a friend and his son out to the range for their first father/son shooting trip. The son is getting deployed soon. His MOS will likely introduce him to the SCAR heavy, so I brought mine out for him to get acquainted with. Kid's a dead-eye!

The M107 has two distinct recoil impulses which I was not expecting. The first is the BCG cycling back, which feels (only) like a 12ga. The second impulse is from the barrel - it's mounted on a spring system in the upper. That feels a bit like somebody lightly whacking you with a pillow. You feel it just after the first push from the BCG. Recoil is dramatically reduced over the M82.

I remember saying "I could shoot this thing all day." Next weekend I'll do just that! Might require a nap at lunch though. LOL I was sleepy as hell driving home after all the adrenaline was dumped out of my body. That's exactly the effect I hoped to achieve since I can't ride my sportbike in the PNW rain and expect to live.

Second surprise of the day: I picked up a NIB Gen3 POF .308 piston-driven AR for 50% off last week. It shot like a friggin DREAM! Lighter recoil than either my SCAR or OBR with the same ammo. The only change from stock so far is a Spike's T3 heavy buffer, which will definitely stay.

Roughly 1.5MOA @ 200yds prone with Barrett ammo if you do your part. Better than I was expecting!

Heading out to the desert Saturday to destroy cinder blocks and small refrigerators!

Andy, any video?
Working on it. So far its been nothing but a tidal wave of white smoke (not in a bad way) every time I pull the trigger! Probably need something better than an iPhone for the vid.

I want to film a rapid fire mag dump next weekend if I can keep from getting scoped. Only 30rds through it so far but getting really good at returning to NPOA after each shot so should be doable. The barrel springs were stiff as hell NIB and recoil decreases with every shot. Feels like 12ga magnum right now.

OHAI! Back after a brief hiatus. Have a short video of me nailing a 2'x2' plate at 1015 yards with a 200yd zero and Barrett's "accuracy ammo." Will post up soon. Posting this as a reminder to myself. You can barely hear a 308 hitting steel at 600 yards where we were shooting. The 50 impact makes serious noise even at 1000.

Solid post. It would get deployed somewhat as intended every July 4th - shooting road flare-lit propane tanks with RAUFOSS at night for 300' fireballs of awesome. Another good detrimental point is the cost of US Optics 25x glass and suppressor = 100% cost of the rifle.
hells to the yes! Thats what im talking about!!

LPF what optics are aboard your 50? I scavenged my Mark 4 to put on my 6.5 creedmoor and need a dedicated glass to put aboard my BA50 without destroying my bank account.
Not sure what price is running on Barret rounds, but I've bought from 50 BMG Supply and it's been decent. 18" plate at 800 is the farthest I've stretched mine. Trigger is awful.

at about half-way through the video I flip the safety, push all the air out of my lungs and....

Slow-motion of the propane tank lifting off into orbit!
Without boasting I can say these are the best two non-pornographic films I've seen this year. What impressed me the most is that I could shoot the Barrett off-hand, without any perceived recoil. Seriously, it's so heavy that it just soaks everything up, making you think .22LR kicks harder off-hand.

Leupold Mk6 in 3-18x44 with Horus H56 reticle & Larue mount. I also paid through the nose for a US Optics Cant indicator. It's made its money back over time by making a huge difference in my accuracy out past 600. I'm thinking about getting the trigger worked over too.

For plinking (cinder blocks, propane tanks) I shoot Federal XM33 @ $2.50/rd. PMC is cleaner & more expensive but not more accurate for me. When I was shooting @ 1000yrds I used Barrett's "accuracy" ammo which is about $6.50/rd. The Hornady AMAX 750gr is all the rage with handloading match 50 guys, but I haven't observed it group better yet for me (apples and oranges yeah I know). The upside to that AMAX is that it's readily available. The Barrett ammo is slightly HTF now and who knows down the road.
