i worked in retail for a little and a big issue we had was the gift card thing... You would purchase a gift card for lets say $100, you get a card and a reciept. When you go to use your card, it is empty....balance zero. When you check the reciept, the card #s do not match. By the time you figure it out, the money is gone. The clerk did a card swipe and either used the card themselves, sold it or gave it away. This happens a lot during the holidays, because people tend to hold on to giftcards for a few weeks/months before using them.
