  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

46 is the new bourbon out from Maker's Mark and it is delicious!!! I am a big Knob Creek and Stagg fan, but this might just be my new favorite bourbon! It tastes like candy and is incredibly smooth. Bourbon fans definitely need to check this one out!
Anyone else tried this yet?!?

Howdy Tyler:

I hope you are well.

Thanks for the review. I am learning more about bourbon and cigars by the day, just started both last year. I will have to pick up a bottle of this to try.

Best regards, tony

Is it pure coincidence that I JUST asked about this in the "favorite spirit with cigar" section? haha...

Heres my question...I'm NOT a drinker. Don't care for beer, dont like mixed drinks...only if its sweet and I cant taste the alcohol. BUT, I picked up a bottle of this in HOPES that I may enjoy mixing it with coke and sipping it while I smoke. Do you think I'll like it? I don't care for regular Maker's and coke, so I'm not sure why I picked this one up.

I'll have to pick this up if it's available in MS. Usually I stick with Stagg, Elijah Craig 18yo and Blanton's.

My sister is a HUGE Maker's drinker..and by huge I mean she's very overweight and all she drinks is Makers. Apparently this was a limited release and they aren't going to start producing anymore until next year. She lives in an area of TX where it wasn't available. I guess if you go to their website there's a section where you can find beverage stores in your area that carry it. Well guess what...I had a store. I had to buy her 4 bottles. Thats kinda why I picked one up for myself. She said its supposed to be sweeter and smoother than regular Makers. I figured I'd give it a shot and if I didn't like it I'd just give the rest to her. I also had to buy a bottle for my mom, and a bottle for a client. In total I walked out with 9 bottles. The others were gifts for people.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gah. Don't mix this! If mixing with Coke stick with the basic stuff! I wouldn't even recommend mixing Makers with Coke, but I'm sure some will. Makers is a wheat bourbon which means it's got a much lighter, smoother (best descriptors I have at the moment) flavor than something like Knob Creek or Wild Turkey, for instance, which are rye bourbons. Coke is going to completely smother the flavor of Makers and really, why spend the money on a special version just to dump Coke into it? Try it with a couple of ice cubs, just sipping, with the coke on the SIDE and see how it goes. If you want something to mix in Coke stick with options like Wild Turkey at the highest end or better yet, bottom shelf fare.

To each their own of course, just my .02.

I'll have to pick this up to try. I like regular Makers on those occasions when I want a lighter bourbon and don't want to pay the money for something like Pappy Lot B or W.L. Weller (the Antique Collection barrel proof, not the regular versions).

Awesome tip! Thanks! I'm very pessimistic since I don't like bourbon and I really dont drink hardly at all. On the VERY rare occasion I have a mixed drink its either Captain and coke or Cranberry and vodka. But I will for sure try your suggestion. Thanks again. Let you guys know in November how it went.

IF you are going to mix......

Back when I was drinking Jack many moons ago I did Jack and Ginger. I got a lot of the Jack flavor, I am just not sure how this would work with Makers.

Just use ice and water to cut it. I was once like you, SBB, and I built a good tolerance, and eventually taste, for straight bourbon by slowly cutting my drinks with less and less mixer. Now I love straight alcohol.
