  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

This is true. My local B&M is having the same issue. They have gotten lawyers involved. This was targeted originally for internet purchases because they say a minor can purchase thru the sites. But now I hear that it will carry over to the B&M's also.

What a shame. This can be taken care of by using a site like P**P**, but not a lot of gents like to have to deal with that.

We will have to wait and see what happens.

Damn Commies.

that's crazy sh!t man, WTF??? This goes beyond being under age this is complete fraud if the kid is stealing the P's CC then guess what this is a parental problem. I love how the government tries to raise children. If I were a parent and I saw some charge for a case of cigarettes on my card from some online source I would tear apart my kids room in a heart beat. Just like many other parents. This is BS and only solves a 1/10 of the problem which is just like the government, they only think a problem part way through.

I don't use mastercard, but if I did, I'd cancel my accounts and tell them why. Not a big deal but maybe if ten thousand accounts were cancelled they'd get that Politically Correct butt-plug out and give it a rest!

What the...? Done to protect kids from buying online?! It's called education, wankers, and it comes from the kids teachers and parents; not out of bans and restrictions!

I've heard of this for quite some time now. In an effort to skirtail around this, we've brought in gift cards. One can purchase a gift card with whatever type payment they want, then the gift card can be used to purchase the tobacco products. It does suck ass however that M/C is doing this.

I just spoke to one of the employees at the B&M and they have not had problems selling to people with mastercard. Who knows I'm still waiting on a response from my bank.

Mastercard is an association, now a corproation that handles the "oversight" of credit card transactions. Credit card transactions are processed usually with a third part such as First Data or Nova. The processor handles the relationship between the issuing bank and the merchants bank. Your bank which is an issuing bank has no control over the situation. Vias and Mastercard are under siege by the antismoking folks to prohibit the processing of transactions that involve cigarettes. You are right that this began as an internet purchasing issue. Cigars and pipe tobacco where specifically excluded from the rules. JR is a high visability company that has been targeted for a number of issues. California hit them and UPS to give up records of sales made to CA residents and then sent tax bills to those people. JR also chose to interpret the MC rules to include cigars. JR may just be tired of fighting and gave up.

I will try and do a check of the new Vias MC regs coming out Jan 1 and see if I can find any new tobacco rules. To date, I have not heard of any changes.
