  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I prefer not to keep the cello on my cigars when they are in my humidor. I keep it on if it is a flavored cigar or something like that but I don't really have any of those.
My question is can I keep maduro's and regular cigar together? Mild, med and full body?

Thanks

Yes, It is like anything else, do what you like. If my cigars come in a cello, then they stay on. I went through that stage years ago and I would take them off. Having never smoked a flavored cigar that is not an issue for me. I wouldn't keep them in the same humi if that was me.

ive been wondering if it affects the flavors or the aroma of a cigar also.. i noticed the drac that i recieved has a smell to it thats unlike most cigars but now that its been in my desktop for a week it smells like any other cigar.. idk if the other cigars in the humi were the cause of this or if my nose is lying

I don't leave the cello on mine. There is no reason why I take them off, besides the fact that I just don't like the look of them on my cigars.

The only time I have had mold on cigars was when they were out of the cello. So now I keep the cello on and watch the others daily since it could be devastating.

I like most leave mine as they came. I don't necessarily care if they have it on or not, but I do like the look of my cigars without damaged wrappers, this happens more often than not in cigars with cello.

I typically don't smoke flavoured cigars. I was given one that was kept in coffee grounds but it was smoke before it ever made to my humi. I agree that I like the look of my cigars out of the cello as opposed to in it. I don't plan on storing them years or anything so I shoudl be fine storing a couple of maduros with my regulars. Thanks everyone for the replies!

I haven't noticed any transfer of flavor in sticks, but aroma is a little altered IMO. I wouldn't really be concerned with it. I take the cello off if it makes sorting/stacking the cigars difficult (or if I have sticks I want on my 'top shelf' list, I take them off just because they look better removed IMO.

I just throw them in my humi, If they have cello it stays on. I mix cigars and don't seperate unless I have a bunch of one thing then they are put into boxes. If not they co-mingle. No flavored cigars have ever hit my humidor.

I take all the cello off my sticks if they come with it on. They can breathe and age better in my opinion. Plus I like that potent smell of a humidor when it's opened. If you're just gonna' end up smoking them in the near future, than there's probably no difference. I've never noticed flavor changed when storing with different sticks.

Cello is permeable. If you keep flavored cigars with regular they will affect each other. Never store an infused or flavored cigar with reg ones

So I guess this is where I become a Cigar Snob, haha. I don't have any flavored cigars but I did put an Acid cigar in an old desktop humidor and all my cigars smelt like that for days. I have a display humidor that has three levels. I have a cigar oasis as my humidification so that takes up about half a tray and I put my churchills on that level. I rotate the top and bottom tray but I keep my Mild to Medium on one tray and my Medium to Full on another. I also remove them all from the cello unless they are an overly odorous cigar.
From what I have heard and found out is that yes, the cigars that 'touch' each other will exchange scents and sometimes even flavors. Many manufactures will keep the same cigars together to let them 'settle' similar to fermenting to blend flavors together and create a more equal flavor after being wrapped - Consistency.
As far as in a humidor I have seen minimal effects but I have still seen some changed. I had a Partagas Black (Darkest cigar I owened at the time) and a Los Blancos Maduro (Also a dark cigar). After 6 months or so I did smoke the Maduro and it did taste a little like the black. Could the wrapper have been dyed? Dunno. Could I be tasting things that my mind made up? Perhaps, but I doubt it. I did take some pictures and posted on twitpic a while ago

6 months sitting in Humidor next to each other.

Enough rambling - I pull them out of cello and organize due to shade of wrapper (i'm going cigar snob, i know. Hate away - haha)

This.

Plus, I have got to think that since cello is a molecular substance, there must be the possibility of a hint some transference of plastic-like aroma to the tobacco, no matter how insignifigant.

Guess I just like the organic nature of free-range stogies.
