  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

The first true cigar app for iPhone and iPod touch. All the data is stored locally on your device without the need of an internet connection. It's a decent app that does what it says it does.

The wishlist is a great feature for those times you're in a B&M and can't remember everything you wanted to get to try. Another plus is that it's preloaded with cigars and their information but yet everything is editable. You can also add new brands/cigars (not sure if updates will include new stuff).

The interface and graphics could use an upgrade. I suggest a hard reset before launching if you experience crashing while scrolling through lists. I think it's priced right at $3.99 and overall give it 3.5/5

Check it out on the iTunes store: Mobile Stogie

well, I guess I missed the boat on this one....maybe I'll make a better one yet, BOTL branded if I do (with permission of course)
I'm up for helping if anyone wants to take charge on an iPhone (or Android) cigar app. An iPhone app shouldn't be too hard, particularly since sqlite is available to manage the data.

in the process of learning the SDK right now....but with 3.0 coming out this summer and 1000 new APIs....might be worth waiting.

I'd be up for a BOTL branded one. I just downloaded the mobile stogie one. I was pleasantly surprised to see they had 44 different Tats in their library.

Ken said he was working on fixing problems and adding more cigars to the library.

It is an impressive application.

Yup, I will be adding some more. I have the update-code completed, and I'm fixing a few more things for a version 1.1. Probably ship it off to Apple within a week at most. Likely changes:

- A few more cigar brands added
- Default to last used Humidor when adding cigars to MyCigars
- Picklists for "acquired from" and "format" fields in MyCigars section
- Picklist for year (and maybe include month with it)
- Some code cleanup and optimization
- Default to all CAPS for box code field

Mostly just tweaks to make it a bit easier to use, while I get ready for a version 2 that will focus on smoking notes, reviews, etc... still thinking through the design for that.

I got a touch about 6 months ago. Before that, I swore I'd never get a "trendy" iPhone. After havingthe touch for about a week, I decided that as soon as I could upgrade, I would. This thing is badass!!

I hope so, it crashed three times within the first 5 minutes of using it. It happens when scrolling intensely through the long list of brands (most likely a memory issue).

Update: VirginIslander's tip (below) about resetting fixed most of this from happening.

Hi Eric,

I happened on this thread from a google link. I'm the author of Mobile Stogie, and I'm sorry to hear that you have had crashing issues. Honestly the first user to report that (since the lengthy beta process ). I worked pretty hard to make sure there are no memory leaks in the app, but it's been a big learning curve for me. I only built this app because none of the other efforts I've heard about really took off. I can tell you it has been quite a 'labor of love', so I want to make as good as it can be.

It would be great if you could let me know some details on your device. (iPhone: original or 3G; or iPod Touch) .. how much memory etc., and I'll try to replicate it on mine.

Thanks in advance, and I'll keep you posted as I continue to work on Mobile Stogie. I usually play on Cigar Asylum (and used to play on Club Stogie). Always great to find another group of BOTL's, so I'll be checking in regularly.

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words

I got your email, and I will work to get those two brands added in the version 1.1 update (my son had already given me the details for all the Nubs). I figure about one week to get it sent to Apple, and it typically takes about 7 days or so for them to approve. At least that was how the first version worked; maybe updates go faster. It's the first application I've ever written by myself, so still a steep learning curve. Thanks for working with me to improve the app!
