  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I can tell the difference between mold and plume on cigars. Actually never seen plume on cigars except pics. But I' .lm a relative newb to pipes. Just got a tin of SG Bothie Flake gifted to me today. Opened the tin and this is what I found.

Thoughts?

If the tin was sealed could it possibly be mold? I think mold needs more oxygen to survive. Did the tin 'pop' when you opened it? They are vacuum sealed. I have never had mold in a fresh tin.

SG does package with a lot of moisture though.

If you want to see mold from a fresh tin, Google "mold Cornell and Diehl"
What you have looks crystallized to me. Most dense flakes I open have some of that.
Smoke it. Enjoy. Tell us what you think.
Ah yeah. That's different than SG packaging though. They don't vacuum seal their tins, or if they do they are at much less negative pressure. Those are like peanut tins, contents not under pressure. The SG tins are the flat type that need to have the vacuum released to open.

That's what I was going to ask as well. It might have some age on it???
a year old
Ive seen plume form in just over several months, common myth out there that plume only forms after several years of storage. What is required however are drastic swings in humidity and temp, toward the downside.

Plume typically doesnt show up very well in photos, mold does. Give it a rub, should tell you all you need to know.
