  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Mold or simply discoloration?

Hello guys,

Just bought a bundle of Flor De Oliva's from Famous-Smoke. I really like these cigars as an everyday inexpensive smoke and I figured I'd give Famous a shot. The first thing I noticed upon opening the cellophane of the bundle and inspecting the sticks is that the cigars felt somewhat spongy, more so than cigars I've bought at Two Guys that were maintained right at 70 % RH.

The cigars have been in my humidor now for about five days, and they taste quite good yet are still rather spongy. Upon further inspection of the sticks, I've noticed some greenish discoloration across the wrapper. It's pretty consistent across all the smokes. I'm not sure if this is the beginning of mold, or simply just discoloration in the tobacco. I've posted a close up of one of the sticks where this discoloration is clearly visible. If anyone could give me some input on this it'd be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Just looks like wrapper variation to me, but it's hard to tell when you really can't see the cigar. The spongy could just be under filled cigars too.

Hello guys,

Thanks for the input. I had read that mold typically is raised off the surface of the cigar, and has a fuzzy characteristic to it. I hadn't noticed this type of discoloration in any of the other cigars I've previously smoked so I was just a bit nervous. Nevertheless, the cigars taste great and that's what's most important. :glassesgr

Trust me on this one, if they taste great......it ain't mold. Looks like a slight discoloration like the green spots you sometimes see in a leaf.

yep, mold is 3D. like when bread or chees or an orange get moldy, it raises off the surface. I have seen the green spot on several sticks before.

I don't recall ever finding mold inside a cigar. I've only found it on the outside, and as pointed out, it's 3D, you can see it frm the side.
