  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hello. I'm new to the group. I thought I'd begin my first thread by throwing a smoking delema out to the masses.
Since 2009 the My Father #1 was a go-to cigar for me. In fact it was my co-number one cigar (along side the Fuente Opus X). Then in late 2011 I picked up some My Father sticks and discovered that the rich flavor of the cigar that I enjoyed so much had completely disappeared. Now I understand that when a blend runs out of tobacco it's difficult to come up with same results. So while I wait for the My Father to come back to its original form I thought I would ask the masses if there was an adequate subtitute.

Thanks guys and gals.

First off, have you tried anything more recent? I've found the My Father very consistent since 2008, but that's my personal experience.

As far as substitutes, the first cigar I'll point you to is the L'Atelier (Pete Johnson of Tatuaje's new company, also made by Pepin Garcia). All 3 sizes are all excellent. Great flavor, nice level of spice (but not overpowering), and only medium to medium-full in strength, so I can smoke them any time of day. They don't taste like the My Father, they're pretty unique actually, but you should try them.

You should also try Pepin's other main blends as well, Black, Blue, etc. All rich with lots of pepper flavor and earth.

+1 to njstones comments...

there are several pepin alternatives.. all unique.. but most everything he makes has that "signature" profile to it.. pepper, spice, earthy, etc.. While I prefer the My Father line over the rest.. I have found that I really like the 601 line for daily smokes (I particularly like the blue and the red).. that the DPG Blue Label stick is a good choice for me.. etc..etc..

Thanks for the ideas. I've never tried a DPG Blue. That will be my next cigar. I'll try the L'Atelier when I next have the chance to pick one up.

Thanks again!

Yep, Blue Labels are great (and age very well too). Stronger than the My Father, though, in fact it used to be one of the strongest cigars around. Not so much now with all these ligero-bomb cigars to come out lately, but it's definitely still full strength.
