  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Well done. I smoked my first MFLE11 yesterday, and thought it was better than the 2010. I'm going to smoke a 2010 today to confirm that, because I am fastidiously scientific. This cigar, to me, cannot be compared to anything available today. I'll have to have a few more, but the first one led me to think that it is in Monte 2 or Bolivar Royal Corona territory.

The first MF I smoked was right out of the cooler at 65%........the second, was put in my "unhumidified" cigar caddy overnight. I wanted to see if there was a difference in the burn. I think I've smoked enough cigars in my life, that I don't make smoking them problematic...........but thanks for your insight :squinteye

I never 'dry box'. I smoke them as they are intended to be smoked by the blender, and as you would smoke it picking it up and smoking at your favorite lounge, period. If I run in to burn issues, it's with the construction, not any sort of conditioning problem.

I had to see what the hype was all about, so I bought a single.

I found it to be very mild for a Pepin stick. Good flavor, but I didn't think it justified the price point at all. One of the most beautiful band combos I've ever seen!

While I agree that perhaps that should be the case, I find that most B&Ms over-humidify. Most I see go for between 70-70% rH, as opposed to the 65% for NCs and 60% for CCs that most of us here employ. I (and many) have found that those are often the optimum conditions (and then, yes, if I find a burn issue I blame the construction).

I have personally had issues a number of times smoking a stick striaight out of the B&M humidor, so much so that I typically ask the propriator if I can smoke something I brought myself provided I buy something from him as well. I have never blamed the cigar when they don't burn properly after they've been humidified to the point of being squshy.

Back on topic: Awesome review! I can't wait to try one of these, though as others have said the price will keep me from getting more than a couple singles.

Adding the variable of improper humidification is a moot point. Again - if stored correctly as intended by the blender - no need for anything else to be done. You also can't set blanket RH% like that, there is no rule. Maybe in your area and smoking are preferences that works for you best but that doesn't work for everyone. 65% happens to work well for me at home since I typically smoke them out in much more humid air, but in our local lounges more humidity works very well while smoking them inside, even though they can be noticeably squishier in the hand.

Everyone needs to find their own preferred RH% for their own situation. Making a statement like a certain percentage follows a certain county of manufacturer doesn't work IMO.

Thanks for watching!

Totally agree! The price point is high, but I loved the cigar and I will buy more!

I smoked a 2011 le yesterday and was wowed! Complex smoke with spice, cinnamon and dried fruit cherry flavors. Did not have the typical overwhelming high octane strong pepper blast of the regular lines of pepin's cigars which allowed the flavors to be more relevant. Smoked it down to the nub-give me more!! I ordered several boxes.

so what i want to see is someone doing a back to back comparison of the '10 as it is right now, and the '11. who's it gonna be?
I just did this about 3 weeks ago with a friend of mine at his shop. We both sat down with a 2010 and a 2011 and smoked them back to back with nothing to drink to not interfere with the smoke. We started at 10am so it was nice and early and neither of us had smoked anything prior.

Sorry I don't have pics or any kind of in depth notes, but we both agreed the 2011 was better but not vastly so. The 2010 was more prominent in flavor but it was just 1 flavor the whole smoke, not as complex as either of us had wished. The 2011, while not as overtly flavorful, represented many different flavors from start to finish. In our minds that made the 2011 a little better. Both were great smokes and we enjoyed them.

They both shared a similar spice both on the palette and through the nose. The 2010 was spice and leather the whole way through. The 2011 started very leathery and earthy, then moved on to a sweeter spice then back to the leather.

I personally think the 2011 will be a better cigar with age. It has a lot more complexity that IMO will do better with age. Both of them had a young taste to them ROTT but the 2011 I felt was more "complete". It has a lot of potential and I have 2 boxes of both the 2010 and 2011 in my humi just sitting and waiting.

I personally liked the 2010 better. Maybe it was too young, but I found the 2011 to be quite mild (smoked May 9th). It was still a great cigar!

I agree with the 2011 being milder. I think the 2010 was on the low end of the full body end of things where the 2011 fell into a solid medium IMO. The 2010 had a strength I felt in the throat with the spice that I just didn't get from the 2011.

Nice review. Had the stick when it first came out and bought a box... I agree with some of the other posts... a little age and this will be an amazing stick.
