  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Smoked my first bowl last night in a nice cob thanks to the newbie trade. Went by my local B&M today to get a few more cobs but they only had really cheap Chinese stuff. Saw this little pipe in their estate section for $20. I liked it and it had some cake so I bought it. Seems these go for around $30 online new. Its a Capri? Hope I didn't get ripped! Lol

My first Briar was a Capri from PipesandCigars.com. I paid $25. From what I have read they are basket pipes or seconds.

Mine, unfortunately, is not a very good smoker. I believe the draft hole was drilled too high from the bottom of the pipe. In its current state it is a notorious gurgler and always leaves a fair amount of unburnt dottle. Eventually I plan to try and fix it with some pipe mud.

I hope you have better luck with yours. It is a handsome pipe.

Congrats on sliding down a new slope!

It's pretty subjective - really, if you're happy with the pipe and it is/was worth $30 to you, then you made a great first purchase.

i have a couple few basket pipes that are just performers, and i hope yours ends up that way as well. also, like not going boxes deep on cigars until you know what you really like, take your time and learn pipe, your preferences on blends and pipes themselves, before you drop serious coin. for $20, i think you did pretty OK, but you're going to have to smoke it and let us know. o)

Anything you buy if you like it is all that matters. I love Dr. Grabow pipes and have over 26 of them. Some others can't stand them. There are deals around to be had. One that i think could be interesting a pipe for 99.00 and you can pick from like 15+ different styles but on top of that they will also toss in a 16oz (1 Lbs) of Lane LTD Bulk Crown Achievement Tobacco.

On a different site there is one deal where you get 3 1oz sample, Pipe tool, Pipe stand, pipe cleaners, pipe sock and yes even a pipe. you can choose from straight or bent and that is only 30.00. It is a good way to start out. Not much in tobacco but good for a sample to know what someone may or may not like..

I am sure there are better deals out there for the Pipes. I only buy OTC and the stuff that isn't OTC I get from 2 different online stores. One of them I just found out is now owned by CI where I get my Cigars lOL along with other places. For awhile only knew of 2 trusted places for Pipe tobacco and for cigars I buy from 4 different online stores. Trying to get the best deals... Darn Hobby anyway LOL

Just finished my first bowl with this pipe. It smoked great. No problems. Man do I love the smell of pipe tobacco!
That's great!

And I agree. We are redoing our basement and that's where my office will be. I can't smoke in the house but you better believe that instead of a bowl of potpourri, I'll have a bowl of pipe tobacco in there

Good to hear that it smoked well for you. Sounds like it was good for the money after all.

Hope you enjoy the pipe hobby before long if you find you have a fond desire for the Leaf you will have many more pipes.
