Toro! Toro! Toro!
Hello brothers! I smoked my first Tatuaje today. Here is the complete saga.
I havent been smoking for very long, but I have had some really nice cigars. These are the ones I like: Cohibas while in Mexico on vacation (I now know I had some fake ones too, but I think I can tell the diference now I wondered why some were much better than others), Partagas Black, RP 1990, Don Pepin Cuban classic, Gurkha Symphony, and X3 and the LFD Coronado. Based on all the talk on this board about the Tatuaje cigars and the fact that Pete himself posts here, I decided to by some for my birthday. I found a B&M 30 miles away and I bought Cojonu 2006, Cojonu 2003, Regios, and Unicos. They felt a little dry, and when I put them in my humidor, the RH went from 68% to 63%. Over two days, it has worked its way back to about 65%. I think, I will smoke one. The victim, the Regios. I clipped the end, and had a pre draw. Good draw, but where is that peppery taste everyone raves about. I get hardly any taste. Ok. Lets toast and light this puppy. Hey, I actually did pretty good I got it about 90% all the way around and the center glowing perfectly. Not bad since I usually only get them lit about 50% and have to puff the first half inch to correct it. Now Im about ¼ inch in an Im not really tasting anything and then BOOM!! It all hits me at once a really bold wood and spice taste. Yummy! Then I realize, I havent eaten anything!! This is a very bad idea. I am really hungry. Stomach was expecting food and is now processing nothing!
NOTE TO ANY TRYING ONE OF THESE, EAT FIRST!!
This cigar is probably going get even bolder, and all I really want is food. I dont have time to cook anything, so Im going to have to make a burger run. There is a Wendys about 4 miles away. Newplan: take cigar with me to Wendys, get burger, smoke it in the car. Not ideal, but I really want to finish this. Set cigar down, throw on jogging suit (sorry, no hoodie), put in contacts, get ID. Whats that, a cigar? Did it go out? Take a draw, still good. Wood and Air like the pre draw, but still working. Lightly puff until I get to Wendys and its hurting me!! Now scarf down a burger and half a pepsi and lets enjoy this cigar. I only lost about ½ inch in the last 15 min.
So heres the review.
Now that the food has settled and I have smoked the cigar down to about 1-3/4 inch left that taste was not wood and spice it was more like toasted nuts and leather and thats the way the wrapper actually smells. I appear to be developing a headache so lets let this cigar rest, get out of this car, get some fresh air, and really evaluate this.
CONCLUSION: Its definitely over roasted nuts, leather, and nicotine. Do I like this? Its ok, but very powerful. The Vitola.net website says that the Cojonu is even bolder than this, maybe spicier? Am I going to try that one? My head is spinning. Get back in car.
Whats that? Is there a flower in here? This cigar has changed while it rested!! Take a draw. Hummm sweet and nutty. Thats gooood. Start smoking again. Maybe this is a humidity thing? Add some mouth humidity, thats interesting now nuts, flowers, and spice like cinnamon. Extra humidity helped. May be if these were at 70% instead of 65% they will be spicier and smoother. I am really enjoying this but there is only one inch left. Smoked it to within half inch of the cap. And I have a major BUZZ. Now how do I get more of these and get them to 70%! I was going to smoke the 2003 Tuesday on my actual birthday, but I think I will wait until they have had at least a week at 70%. No opening the humidor until then!! ME LIKEY, ME LIKEY A LOT!
