  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey guys just got my first naked briar pipe, any special requirements for looking after these, just had my first bowl and the flame has blackened the top a bit, just wanted to ask before I get too carried away...

Good to know! Thanks Hooligan and CVAC
Before you smoke some crazy amount of bowls through it, take some before pictures and then take some more pictures in a few months to see and compare how much change occurs in the coloring of the pipe. It's pretty awesome. I've been doing that with my Nording freehand.

Damn, how did you do that?

Wow, either you have one hell of a clench or that was a cheap ass stem.
Wow, I've never seen that happen...damn. My guess a really cheap stem. Hopefully, you can get a hold of a new one.
It was quite strange, every bowl I smoked the tenon and mortise joint got tighter. The first one I just twisted with my hand as usual, the second I really had to give it everything, the third I couldn't crack by hand and it came undone with a slight twist in my teeth, the fourth wouldn't come undone and the stem shattered when I tried to twist it... Not real happy!

Not sure about the replacement stem but on any other pipes you notice this happening on put a little beeswax on the tenon and it will smooth right out. no more sticking. It also works for loose stems actually. Some good stuff to have on hand. Sorry about your pipe!
