I think that what makes the championship of any sport (despite how scott may categorize it) exciting and memorable is the next level that players take it to. Both in play and competetiveness. The rules have to be different (somewhat) because at that level the game is different. These weren't regular season games between two teams that knew they weren't going to make the playoffs and were trying to hurt one another. This was competition at the ultimate level for their profession. Fouls are going to be harder, emotions are going to run high. That's what makes it so compelling. Everything is on the line. Stack wasn't trying to hurt Shaq, the same way when Shaq was throwin' 'bows all series I don't think he was trying to hurt the Mavericks (specifically Stackhouse in game one). But that's part of the intensity of the finals. I was appaled to learn that (unlike the MLB) the NBA has no system in place to put the "best" refs on the court for their championship series. NO ONE wants a championship decided by officials, it hurts the game as a whole. And hurts the winners claim as a champion. An aside, I think that D-Wade has made an art form of changing directions mid-air and leaping off balance so that it looks like he was pushed or his course was altered in some way. I think the NBA has some major revisions that need to be made in how it handles it's officiating. It wasn't just the finals, they've got some hardcore introspection that needs to be done if they want to avoid more opinions like scott's.
