  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Near future brew schedule

My god this Blue Moon stuff is taking FOREVER. I think it should finish up this week. I'm down to 1.012 ish so a few more days and I bet it'll be done. I did a testing with my refrac and my hydrometer. That way I had a sample to taste and it tasted good like bluemoon only mine is more boozy. I hate when that happens.

Blue Moonish Belgian Wit
Pliney the Elder Clone kit (17oz of hops!)
Red Ale kit (using riwaka hops from new zealand)
Then finally a recipe from Sgresso for a CoCo Wheat Ale

It looks like the Belgian wit will be first. Then the next two at the same time I only got one vial of yeast for them so I'll make a starter and split the vial to make enough yeast.

Then I'll make the Coco wheat. Hmm hopefully my friends come through with some bottles for me because I'm not kegging yet!
Adam, I'm definately intrigued to see how the first and last turn out for you. They both sound like my kinda beer....actually beer is my kind of beer!

Alright my Belgian Wit Bier is bottled. I'll let you guys know how it tastes in a couple weeks. If its good I'll brew again and share.

Also I brewed up another batch of cider on saturday. Then brewed up that Red Ale kit with Riwaka Hops.

Up next is the Pliney the Elder Clone recipe, and the CoCo Wheat Ale.

I moved my double IPA into secondary today, put in 2oz Galena dry hops.
Looks like this baby is around 8% ABV and tastes great as she sits. Can't wait for a little conditioning time and to tap this one. Started a tad low on the OG, but went under the targeted FG, so I hope it's not too dry. Either way...it's beer!

Sounds good I wish I had more of the Riwaka hops to dry hop my beer with they have a great aroma. Checked this morning and both the air lock on my cider and the red ale are active. I used Nottingham in the cider.

Wow I envy you guys! The brews sound good. I have been wanting to brew my own beer for some time now. I contemplated getting one of those starter kits but I don't think have enough room.

Nuckz, you don't need a lot of room to make beer. The important things are sanitation you need to keep things clean, and having a cool, dry, dark place to set the fermentor while the beer is brewing (closet, basement, corner of the kitchen covered with a towel). I keep my brewing stuff in a big plastic tub when not in use.

If you have a closet you can free up some space in you're fine man. It really doesn't take up a ton of room.

Alright I have bottled the Riwaka Hopped Red Ale and brewed up the hopshake on monday.

The Pliney the Elder Clone was a messy fermentation to start out. I had to change out my blow off bottle three times due to foaming issues. It's calmed down though. Will throw the 7 oz of dry hops down in the secondary in a week or two. I can't wait to have this one.

All that's left of my extract beers is Sgresso's Cocowheat ale.

All extract beers have been brewed. I've snuck at least three batches of the malted cider I've been making too.

If all goes well I will be brewing with all grains monday. It'll be a belgian style witbier with 4lbs of Kiwi fruit at flameout and in the primary.

I've been throwing around the idea of homebrewing for the past couple years but have never got around to it. Thanks for the thread, I've really enjoyed it.
