  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Need a bit of help....

Hello all!

Ok, I am doing some research on a certain topic for a post, and need a bit of help with examples...

The post is going to be about how the classic Vitolas sizing has been degraded over the years, and examples of such...

For example, a Robusto is classically thought of as being 4 7/8 to 5 inches long and having a RG of 50...however, the La Tradicion Cubana "Corona Gorda" is measured at 6x50...

Anyone else have any examples of such?

Thanks :)

Someone mentioned that a lot of modern 'lanceros' are actually panatela size of 40+ ring gauge.

How about how certain magazines that review cigars by specific size (i.e. robusto, corona gorda) just lump in anything that is close.

I hardly ever see a true Corona Gorda (5 5/8 x 46) in the "Corona Gorda" category. A cigar that is 6x54 is NOT a Corona Gorda!

I feel that the magazines' laziness is perpetuating this degradation.

I have to agree here. Especially since people who are new place more stock in magazines and TRUST them.

How can you trust a "certain" magazine that gives the LP "pig" an 83 and lumps sizes together to the point of being capricious?

The CC sites are a good way to learn about classic sizes and gives one a reference to how things have changed.

I think Padróns are the perfect example of this vitola "recategorization." I love their sticks, don't get me wrong, but their classifications are very nontraditional.

I read an article in a cigar magazine recently that talked about this trend of everything turning to bigger RG's.

I don't like it.

I find a significant amount of flavour comes from the wrapper, and the larger the RG, the less of that flavour you get.
