Vegas Virgin needs info...

I'm planning my 1st trip to Las Vegas sometime in 2012, and I need to be placed on Las Vegas mailing lists & would appreciate recent mailings forwarded to me. Any tips on hotel, food and gaming would most helpful. I'll be coming from Kentucky and hopefully bringing both my brothers. Looking for fun, cheap eats, and attractions; hopefully bringing a small profit back. Or just losing a little bit. Fun should be worth it.

My email isn't working. PM and posting are the only ways I can converse currently.

Thanks in advance.

Joe...

Spent a week there at the end of October. Smoke cigars and drink mojitos at Casa Fuente and Rhumbar, eat dinner at Thomas Keller's Bouchon, Charlie Palmer's Aureole, and Block16's The Barrymore. We stayed at the Westing hotel, but that was because everyone I was with has lots of points with Starwoods.

Have fun man... 1st time in Vegas is a great thing!

You want a lot of info, might be better to say what you like and want. You into clubs or old-school bars? High-end steak houses, trendy asian/seafood, or cheap buffets? Sportsbook/betting? You want to be surrounded by 20-somethings, or relax with 40+?

There's lots of options to choose from... you can find tons on Google. :)

Use Priceline for you're room.

Go to Name Your Own Price. Click on Las Vegas Strip South, next click on 5 star hotels then enter $75 per night. If that does not work, Click on Las Vegas Strip North and enter $80 per night. If that does not work, click on 4 star and try $75 per night again. If that does not work, try again the next day and increase it by $5 and so on. It might take a week to get a room, but it is well worth it.

I stay at 4 and 5 star hotels in Vegas for $80 bucks a night all the time.

I have not paid more than a $100 for a room any where in America in a very long time and I only stay at 4 star and up. Priceline rules!!!!

Yep, I always use Priceline wherever I go... I don't always use it, but always look into it.

If you are considering Priceline, use the following websites to see what other people are paying for your dates. People list the price they "win" bids on so you know roughly where to start bidding. You don't want to bid too high when you don't have to...

This one too, but not as popular:

Indeed... I used to stay at the Hyatt at Lake Las Vegas all the time for $90 before it switched to a Loews.

The only different thing I'd recommend is... instead of waiting to the next day and bumping it by $5, you MIGHT be able to just clear your cookie from them and try again immediately. That used to work - but its been a little while since I've tried.

As for things to do while you're there... for a first timer:

1. Two words: Casa Fuente. A can't miss, hands down.
2. Check out the seasonal garden and Chihuly glass ceiling at the Bellagio, especially if you're traveling with women.
3. If you like sportsbetting, spend some time at Wynn and at Mandalay.
4. To kill time while getting free drinks and just hanging out and conversing, I'd recommend pai gow or baccarat.
5. Rollercoaster at New York New York is worth a once over.
6. ESPN Zone at New York New York always requires quite a bit of advance notice... for dinner, plan getting your name on the list an hour before you want to eat.
7. I haven't been yet, but last I heard there was an attempt going on at Tommy Bahama to make their Vegas restaurant the location in the world with the largest rum selection...

If more comes to me, I'll let you know. Also depends on what activities you like - golf, racing, gambling, etc.

I'm 52 and typically hang with the 30 to 50 crowd. Enjoy most music except country, opera, or rap (rather visit the dentist). Don't like exceedingly loud areas. Don't like seafood excepting a regular fried filet. More of a sloppy burger and pizza-by-the-slice kind of guy. Plan on Casa Fuente, a show like Penn & Teller, a few low-stakes game tables. Try to win enough to offset expenses, but realize that's unlikely. Just looking for some fun, hopefully entice my brothers to accompany me. Three boys from Kentucky.

Please mail whatever promotional material you can, to:

Thanks for the help and Priceline type stuff. Big help.

Cheers!

Additional comments on above:

#3 - Caesar's Palace sportbook is a little outdated compared to some others, but it's pretty big and is a classic, plus you can go there as well as Casa Fuente. If you care about getting free drinks, bet a buck or two on horse races and they should give you drink tickets. If they don't offer them up, simply ask as you are buying the ticket. It's a great place to watch the NFL, place some bets on the games and place a few bets on horses getting free drinks the whole time. I got lucky... turned a $20 bet into $850!

#6 - It's no longer an ESPN Zone... changed to a different random sports bar name but pretty much still looks the same inside minus any ESPN perks it might've had.

If you're a burger kinda guy... take a cab just on the other side of the freeway of New York New York and go to In'N'Out!

With this description, I'd say you'll be plenty safe wandering aimlessly.

If you find yourself on the south end of the strip, I've often used the food court at MGM as a great refueling point. Mama Ilardo's pizza, McDonalds, etc.

Although as mentioned above, I would definitely stop at In N Out if you haven't been before.

I try and keep my Vegas visits to around 2-3 days personally. Longer than that and I tend to get sick of all the 'card-flippers' on the strip. Unless you've got deep pockets or a big budget, it tends to get expensive relatively quickly.

Regards,
Randy

I plan on in/out burger. Detest McDonalds. Anyone offer free WiFi in Vegas? And i plan on steering away from the street hustlers. Ain't going to willingly play with the petty thieves.

I don't think you guys are talking about the same thing.... :scratchhe
lol. I think Veeref was probably talking about the old Hispanic women who tray very hard to give you baseball card sized ads for brothels and titty bars... They kind of slap together the cards in an weird way.

Yup.....thousands of em, all up and down the strip. They're ruthless too -- will hand them to dads walking down the street holding their young daughter's hands...
