  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I know budget-conscious and effective are not always synonymous in the cigar accessories world, but, I'm trying to get my hands on a relatively affordable, but great-and-will-last-me-a-long-time guillotine and punch cutter.

Suggestions on a great guillotine are needed.

For the punch, I bought my dad a Montecristo Signature dual-punch for his birthday, but he hasn't had the opportunity to use it yet. It looks sturdy and sharp, and I'm considering buying one. Worth it? Not worth it?

Pick up a Palio and never look back. If I hadn't won my awesome Drew Estate cutter in a contest, that was going to be my next cutter.

Own 2 palios and a Xikar. The Xikar is used 6x a year when I golf. The 2 palios are used daily for the last 3 years.

Palio's are a bit more expensive but well worth saving up. Check Cbid for them on sale(where I scored mine super cheap) and never look back. Why risk using a cheap cutter and getting a bad cut on an expensive cigar. Humidors, cutters, & lighters are just as important as the cigars they effect.

Palio is the best IMHO. Alot of
Cutters look good but are heavy and cumbersome.... These include the MOW cutter from CI. Also, consider a V cutter, which is pretty much all I use anymore.

I have a Wolf V. I don't find it as sharp as I had hoped.

Thanks all, I'll look into getting a Palio. I've heard good things aside from the suggestions, so, maybe I'll finally get one.

I have the typical Xikar tear drop cutter and it works great. I also have though [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Black-Perfecto-Cutter/dp/B004KUNARQ/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1329199963&sr=8-6"]Amazon.com: Black Perfecto Cutter: Kitchen & Dining@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41rrCv3sIEL.@@AMEPARAM@@41rrCv3sIEL[/ame]

and it is really nice also. Good cuts and makes it idiot proof. It is sturdy, I use it all the time and it has a life time guarantee like Xikar.

Sent using Tapatalk while getting a blumpkin.

Palio and Xikar both make quality products tat are designed well (comfortable to use - which I think is an overlooked feature)

Per Cuban Crafters - i too have one of those, solid cutter but not as comfortable to use as the Palio or Xikar. Although, they honor their lifetime warranty. Some screws fell out of mine after about a year and they mailed me a new one when I emailed them.

I currently use the Palio as my primary.

gotta second (eleventh?) palio here. well designed for both the use and user.

had a xicar, standard tear drop shaped double blade, and found it lacked precision. palio is easier IMO to "aim", and has a slow consistent cutting speed that i find works beautifully.

i get where you are coming from with economy, i had been a turn'n'burn cutter guy for years. but anyone who gets into cooking red meat really needs a good set of knives. you start down the wine road, it becomes worth it to really look at stem ware. and anyone who winds up here is usually invested enough in cigars to owe themselves good gear as well.

Best cheaper alt. would be a decent cuban crafters double guillotine, this is what I have and use on a daily basis and it works great and they are lifetime warranty. The palios and xikars are really nice but I wouldn't consider them budget friendly unless you can find a good deal on them.

Bought a Palio when my cheap-o cutter got dull. Won the camo one on CBid for about half what everyplace else was wanting. Also won a regular silver one for $19 for a contest I was holding. If you're patient you can pick one up at a great price on there. I've used Xikars before and they're great cutters, but I just prefer the way the Palio cuts.

As far as budget conscious goes, I've got an extra Xigar cutter I'd be willing to send you. I believe it's the Xikar xi2, the carbon fiber one.
