  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Really?

Xi from cbid is usually a good way to go. I've had Colibri lighters and a Colibri cutter and was VERY disappointed with all of them.
I've also heard good things about the Cuban Crafter. Before I went to Xikar, I used the Wolf double guillotine for many years and it is as sharp as it was when new. I don't see them around too much any more, but do a little searching - they're never more than about $15

Never mind. I just clicked Smoq's link. Do that if the shipping is reasonable. Or, even if it isn't.....great deal

The colibri is a lot less expensive.. Ive got a couple of them.. they work fine.... If youre on a budget.. you can normally pick a colibri up on cbid that is "branded" with some cigar logo for less than $15 shipped (there is a 5 vegas one on there now with a current bid price of $7.. and a "quickbuy" price of $14)..

but...

the XiKar is a superior product in my opinion... cuts a little cleaner.. just feels better in the hand.. etc.. and you cant beat their warranty and customer service.. you'll pay a good bit more for it.. but.. IMO its worth it if youre only going to have one cutter... (I keep a bunch of "cheapies" around.. one for the truck.. one for traveling.. a couple in the "accessories" drawer, etc.. and then have a couple of "nice" XiKars that I normally only use at home or when I go to the lounge..)..

You'll need a Xikar or a Palio, and a Cuban Crafter Perfect Cutter.

Go to your B&M and see about using both the Palio and the Xikar. Both are excellent cutters with very different designs and feel. Figure out which you get a better, more comfortable cut with and go with that. Both have great blades and lifetime warranties. One thing the Xikar has over the Palio is solid construction. The Palio is made with plastic and can have a little give to it. The Xikar is solid and feels sturdier to me.

The Cuban Crafter Perfect Cutter is another cutter with a lifetime guarantee and it works great. It's cheap and can be your everyday carry, or one you keep in your herf-a-dor or car, or to events where you could lose it. Reliable but cheap.

I received an Xikar X1 cutter for my bday and I am astounded at how sharp it is compared to the everyday plastic cutters. Makes such a difference.

Ive gotta ask....

why pay $8 for a generic plastic guillotine cutter... (plus shipping).... like the one linked..

when a metal two blade cutter or reasonable manufacture (the colibri) can be had for $7 (plus shipping)?

Not saying that a plastic cutter wont get the job done...

but...

Also.. where are you hearing that XiKar is overrated? Not arguing the possibility.. so much as wondering who feels that way.. I think you would find plenty of people that will argue the merits of palio over XiKar.. or XiKar over Palio, etc.. but I have never heard anyone say the XiKar was not a top quality product.. with an excellent warranty, outstanding customer service, etc..
