  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

New torch: recommendations?

I have been using the Bugatti B-1 for about a year and a half and have been very happy with it. It is VERY well built and has never failed me. MSRP is $100 on it but I scored mine for $17 on Cbid.
Yah I have a B1. I really disliked it at first because mine doesn't fire every time (contrary to Mr. Maduro's experience), but I have started using it exclusively over my Black Ops Delta and my Cigar Savor i got as a gift. it's the best one i have (and i really like it aesthetically), but it's not as reliable as i'd like. The punches are a great bonus though.

@Mr.Maduro: awesome site man. I am going to have to spend some serious tome checking things out.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys.

Since it does fire up, my guess is one of these four suggestions (I would do all 4 if you have not) has a high likelihood of solving your issue:

1) Purge the lighter
2) Use good butane. Personally, huge fan of Vector Quintuple. For example if I have used Xikar butane and the lighter not fire up everytime. Emptied and filled with Vector and fires every time.
The next two are usually the difference maker if the first two do not resolve the issue:
3) Do not have on highest setting, slightly lower than the highest
4) Maybe the most important for every time success - slowly push in the thumb action pusher to fire it up. Not a fast click, methodically slow.

Let me know if that did the trick :ccool:

@Mr.Maduro:

1) Done.
2) Got me a can of Ronson I am still working my way through at the moment, but I'll look into something more quality when I need to restock. I honestly didn't even think that there'd be differences in quality in fuel, but that makes perfect sense.
3) Done. (At this moment I was appreciating my Black Ops Delta's thumb screw adjuster as I was searching for my mini-Phillips.)
4) Also makes sense. If the ignotion spark goes off before the gas begins to emit from the opening, of course it won't light.

RESULTS: fired up 7/10 times, then 6/10, then 7/10. Way better than I had been experiencing before. Thanks for the tips!

Also want to point out that Mr.Maduro fired me off a private message just to make sure I saw these tips; stand-up Brother lookin' out for another Brother!

All good, thanks for the kind words! I despise the screwdriver adjustment :argh: Glad it has gotten markably better. Maybe with different fuel it will move to 9/10 - 10/10. Opinions vary on the best, but most would agree Vector is very good. Keep us posted!

I have a Colibri Jet 2 that I love. It's treated me very well except for the reservoir size. I get about 4-8 lights out of a fill. Picked it up on the devil site for about $10.

In the time since I started this thread, I've been using my Bugatti B1 exclusively and i think it has failed to light exactly 1 time when I was attempting to actually use it (when just playing around with it it occasionally misfires). Thanks again to Mr.Maduro for the slow squeeze tip, that's definitely the key.

Anyone have a link to a good deal on some Vector fuel? I'm getting close to having to replenish.

Speaking of fuels... has anyone used "King" brand butane? Local hardware store carries it, and it's cheap. I've run two cans through my lighters with no ill effects.

SWEET! That is awesome man, glad to hear. I buy Vector off Amazon or eBay, which ever is cheaper the day I'm looking.

I'm liking my new Xikar Element. It's a dual flame and has a 9mm punch on the bottom. Never used a punch before but used it in a stick I gave a buddy of mine worked extremely well and he said the draw was fine with it. Can prob only use on smaller RG's. Lit 4 sticks with it so far plus relighting one a few times, bad stick, and still going.

Ok, sorry to necro this thread, but I finally picked up some of the Vector Quintuple fuel at @Mr.Maduro 's suggestion and WOW. My B1 has misfired exactly once since I made the switch, and it just SOUNDS more powerful and pure somehow. Vector fuel is legit!

Nice! Amazing how much good fuel would likely save quite a few folks a new lighter purchase. Small change, huge difference. Glad it worked out for you!

i love lighters and at last count I have about 25 of them in all types...3 torch, double flame and single. I have 5 soft flames of various brands and I love the Xikar Exodus for two reasons.....it's warranted for life and it is wind resistant..not windproof. It has a thick wide flame which is really a nice feature so it doesn't take a whole lot to get lit up.

I have the cheaper lighters like Ronson torches that I love....they run on dog pi$$ if you have to find some cheap butane quick and they also have the lighter that looks like a BIC....except the Ronson Comet is refillable....for a $1. I keep lighters everywhere ...car...motorcycle...SUV...garage and on my patios and I only use torches to touch up a crappy burning cigar.
