  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Not sure what to do with these

My wife's aunt passed on some of her late fathers pipes. I have no idea where to even start with pipes. Not sure if I want to dive off into them yet since I'm still finding my way through cigars. Have no idea how old they are. Guess would be 20+ but I really have no idea. Both are Carey's magic inch. Don't think I have ever seen a pipe with a paper filter until now. Are these worth cleaning up for use later on? If they are what don't need to do with them? Any guidance on what to do is appreciated.

It has a unique filter system and all I have restored have cleaned up real nice. A lot of people like them, but I never have tried to smoke one. Nice that you have an original box.

I also have some filters that didn't make it into the pic. How would I go about restoring them if needed? I probably need to start googling this but was hoping for a bro to point me in the right direction. I'll dig into it tomorrow.

If you want to try restoring them, rebornpipes.com is a good resource. One looks like someone either got too aggressive with a reamer or perhaps a defect in the briar is causing it to burn through? Still looks like enough wall there too explore addressing whatever the issue may be.

Check out briarville.com I used them to clean and restore my grandfather's pipe and they did an amazing job. The price was very reasonable .

Boswell's also does pipe reaming and restoration as well. I think someone here on the forum sent them to JM and they looked amazing. Not sure of his prices though.

Thanks for the replies. briarville might be the way to go. Don't really need to buy tools for this since I probably wont pick up on pipes anytime soon.

I would just smoke em first and see how you like it! If you want to restore it after that, have at it.

I love my pipes. PM me if you want some tobacco. I've got quite a bit that should be shared

Have no idea how long they have been stored and they have a burnt tobacco smell.

Burnt tobacco? Hmmmm. Well that confirms my suspicion that they are pipes!

Lol. Also confirms they have been used. More curious if that smell would make it into the smoke flavor. By no means are they stanky but a definite old tobacco burn.
