Forgot the camera at home and have only two pics. Sorry.
Ok, so this is my second Opus X, the first being the "Love Story," which I enjoyed immensely. Between this cigar being HTF and at a premium price, my expectations were high.
Pre-light aroma and draw offered plum, raisin, and cinnamon and cedar. Draw was nice and was ready to spark. I was told this cigar had been resting at 65/65 for 18 months. Just saying.
Cigar sparked easily with a nice draw and burned sharp from the get go till I tried to remove the wrapper. (later)
Right from the start the cigar offered that rich tobacco and spice Opus' are known for. This cigar started off well and my expectations were building. Great floral aroma from the smoke and great spice coating the palate.
My cigar is at the upper-right portion of the pic. Well, at least I have learned how to cut and light a cigar since being here. My friends kept on relighting and relighting with the flame blazing their sticks. ANYWAY.....
About the second third of this stick and it's really hitting the sweet spot. Flavors of cedar, raisin, and spice are hitting on all cylinders and I am enjoying myself.
Funny thing though, it never broke loose for me. Don't get me wrong, it was a very good stick. I just wish I had smoked this before the "Love Story" which is a considerably bigger and stronger smoke. I felt that I was waiting for something that never came with this smoke. It wasn't the smokes fault, I just don't think it's my favorite vitola. Nothing more, nothing less.
I think this is the perfect Opus X break-in smoke, if you can find them and afford them. I can hardly believe the guy who brought them (I supplied S&Bs last week) has 3+ boxes. Man, I am in the wrong line of work. Alas, that is another thread.
Great smoke for newbies to this brand and a good smoke. Is this a case of unrealistic expectations or wanting to smoke the T-Rex I got from Cowboy yesterday? I don't know. But I will keep trying.
