I went to my local B&M yesterday to catch some of the games and picked out a Padilla Habano Churchhill to smoke. I think the price was about $5 and some change. I have heard alot of hype about the Padilla line so I decided to try one.
This smoke was almost flawless in construction. Put out volumes of tasty smoke and held a 2 1/2" ash throughout. Taste was very good. Not complex and not overpowering but solid. Anyway, I found out they are made at the Oliva factory (thus the perfect construction!). I found boxes online for about $2.50 a stick. I belive this would make for a great everyday smoke.
Has anyone tried the Padilla Hybrid? They seem to be about the same price. Hybrid is made with basically Dominican filler and the Habano with Nicaraguan filler. Wrappers are different also.
Just curious about the Hybrids. My B&M only had the Habanos.

Thanks

I've tried all of the main Padilla product line--Conn., Maduro, Hybrid, Habano, Miami 8 & 11--and discounting the obvious Miami, the Habanos line (red & silver label) was my favorite. I definately preferred it to the Hybrid (black & gold label). The strenght between the two was similar, but the flavor profile of the Habanos was more along my tastes.

Of course, your flavor preferences will be different, so I'd suggest you try before you buy. Poke around other b&ms to see if you can pick a couple up before you commit to a box.

Just picked up a couple boxes. A friend sent one to in a bomb and I really enjoyed it so I pulled the trigger.

What are those cigars in the upper row towards the right side with the second band, beside the Lancero sized cigars? Interesting how they made the second band look like an EL band.

Those appear to be Tatuaje Cojonu 2003. Here's a comment by Moki concerning the second band on the Reserva line--and considering his relative close ties to Pete Johnson, I'm willing to bet this isn't conjecture:

This second band is meant to appear similar to the Cuban "Edicion Limitada" band, and the cigars are analogous to Cuban EL cigars, in that they are small production, with different blends for each cigar.
Now like I said, that referrs to the Reserva line, but it makes sense that it would similarly apply to the Cojonu line. Just about everything Pete is doing marketing/packaging wise mimics the Cuban-style.

I got a question.
I picked up a cigar today at a local shop, pretty sure it was a Tatuaje. I know it was at least a cigar made by one of the Pepin brands. It was unbanded with a shaggy foot, about maybe 5x52. I thought it was called a Jibarro or something, but I can't remember the name. Anybody got any ideas? I don't see it in the picture above.
Thanks,

TYLER

You guys really make me want to try some of these new n/c's that are popping up.
I think the "Padilla Miami 8 & 11", the standard brown label "Tatuaje", the "Tatuaje Cojonu", and the "Don Pepin Series JJ" are all worrth trying. Some of the others are good, but those ones in particular stand out.
