Ron,
I called Xikar earlier today and yes they said they bought Madelaine but the electronics are completely different. To calibrate this one you do the salt test and after it has sat long enough for the RH in the bag to reach 75% there is a button at the top that you press and hold for five seconds and it will set the hygro to read 75%. That sets the benchmark.
Why are you against Xikar?
thanks for the info. yes, the design is different from Madelaines.
in my opionion, there is still a problem. not really a problem, but a warning. first, i do not trust home grown salt tests. too many variables. this hygros recal would work with a 75.5 humidipak, but only a 75.5% Humidipak.
the other recalibratable hygros that are being sold will work with any of the Bovedas or Humidipaks.
1 of Xikars salespeople gave me an attitude one day. something about not being a B and M store. we had a brief discussion about online vendors. by time i got done with him, i was off his christmas card list. once a wholesaler gives me an attitude, i am not shy about tearing him a new asshole. all my travel humi business went to Cigar Caddy. Caddy appreciates my business, and the caddy is a better product than the Xikar travel humi. the xikar is based upon old designs of the cigar caddy. the real caddy has better lock clips, and a better gasket.
