  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

OK guys.
been smoking my pies for about 6 months now after stins little drop ship antics. In that time i have done the newbie pipe trade and aquired a couple DR G's when CVS dropped thier tobacco. Just picked up a Dr G grand duke and a Oldenkott Niceroy that have a larger bore hole. and then a little pearwood one that has about a 5/8" hole. When i smoke the larger bowl diameters i seem to have a easier time kepping it lit and the baccy seems to have a fuller flavor. Almost all my baccy is ribbon cut (Examples EMP by Dunhill, bald headed teacher etc) do certian cuts do better in certian size bowls???

Thanks in advance for all input

For me it's trial and error tryin a. Blend in different pipes to find where it shines best, and sometimes I just don't find one

Mostly trial and error to be honest, I tend to prefer stronger/ stouter blends in a smaller bowl, and I think the cut of the tobacco affects it too if it has a thicker cut it seems to do better in a larger bowl, but I think again the majority is trial and error

I'm a bass also, but I do think flakes taste better in a smaller bowl, 3/4" and everything else has better taste in a larger bowl. I think it is heat build up in a smaller, tighter area, (that's what she said)

I have a pipe with a wide shallow bowl that I prefer to smoke Latakia blends in. It seems to mellow out the Latakia a bit and allow me to taste a bit more of the other tobaccos used in the blend.

For me it's English in larger, wider bowls. VA and Va/Pers in billiard style smaller bowls. Ymmv. As everyone has said its trial and error. Throw in there all the variances in each blend and any other outside element of the smoke and it takes a long time to see what works and what doesn't for you. It's all part of the fun journey.
