For the record, I hate the word "gifting." It sounds lazy and too much like unintelligent internet jargon. But anyways, it seems appropriate in this case. This past weekend, I gave one of my pipes (an old leather wrapped Big Ben I got off of eBay) to a close friend of mine after he commented how much he liked it. Only then, I realized that I have given a pipe to each of my closest friends. Pipe gifting seems so much more gratifying than gifting cigars. The pipe will be around for many years after the first smoke has ended.

BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I agree with this 100%, I recently gave a very close friend and business parter my first pipe. It is a Dr Grabow I only used a couple times and he mentioned he wanted to get into piping. Now I am continually giving him new samples of 'baccy to try and each time it is so gratifying. Have another buddy that joined here a few months back that is gonna get smacked with a pipe and 'baccy the next time we meet up.
As do I. In fact, one of the things that, for me, makes pipes so special (especially the estate pipes) is their longevity beyond our own lifetimes. You can go to a flea market or estate sale and get a briar that was purchased 50 years ago, restore it, pass it along, and it can still be in use 100 years from now.
I dunno if I am making sense but there is, for me, something magical about an object that was around before me, will be around after me, and where I am just a part of its whole history.
Kinda along the same lines, but where did the pipe Xmas thread go? My search efforts indicated I made it all up in my head.
That's right - we were going to do a pipe Secret Santa exchange.
