  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

This picture doesn't really show it, but this is what mine looks light right out of a factory sealed bag. You can't really see it, but there's white crystals all over it.

I know this will get some eyes rolling and I'm not claiming to know! With that said, I've seen a lot of people reference plume with stores pipe tobacco. I'm assuming all the sugars...

You guys are gonna make me smoke all my Penzance. I am assuming it's crystals but use your best judgment. I have seen it grow on Penzance pretty abundantly.

actual crystallization of sugars in pipe tobaccos looks kinda shimmery and evenly spread, possibly like kev's photo. hate to say it, but yours looks fuzzy, like mold.

FWIW i have heard of some stuff actually catching mold in tin; GL pease blends, especially the plugs, have bad periods. i had someone gift me a tin of jackknife plug, and i popped it to find the center wooled out like neglected bread.

just like a "mold versus plume" thread, look at it and answer yourself honestly: does it look furry, or crystalline?

I think I agree with Sean after taking a close look at your pic compared to mine. It happens from time to time. I'd definitely keep it separate & maybe even throw the extremely moldy pieces out & smoke the rest without too much concern. I'm more than happy to send you some too, Bryan....just say the word. :)
