  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey guys. I have a Ben Wade that I love, but haven't used in a little bit(some bros bought me a nording.) With winter coming I thought I would get the few pipes I had cleaned up. The Ben Wade's stem seems rather loose when turned in the right position. If I turn it slightly it tightens up, but the bowl is off center. My pipes have been in the garage since the move. Could this be due to the pipe being cold and contracting? If not how can I fix this? Thx in advance.

the least invasive thing is wax, specifically beeswax. if you want something a little less elegant but a little more workable, teflon tape works. OR, paint the tenon with superglue or nail polish, allow it to dry, and then file/ sand it down as needed.

It's wood. Wood moves with humidity. No biggie. Use a little beeswax like java said. And smoke it. It will tighten up.

It's possible just the act of smoking a few bowls in it will allow the wood to swell a bit and get it back to normal.

This shows the separation i am getting with minimal effort

Does feel extremely loose when lined up correctly. My first briar bombed to me by a bro here. It is staying in rotation
