Does it change anything if I remove the filter out of a pipe I have? I can't remember what brand it was but I can check later when I get home from work.

So is it safe to remove it and not have to use the filter?

Is it the balsa wood filter for the Savinelli pipes? You can smoke your pipe without them but it will run a little hotter and give you a little more moisture. You will also get a little more nicotine without the filter as well.

I have no idea. That's not the brand of pipe though.

Are pipes made without the filter designed different so they don't burn as hot?

Filters are completely useless and make absolutely no difference. If anything, they add to condensation and moisture.

Whenever I buy a 9 mm pipe (usually a Savinelli or a German pipe) and it comes with a filter already in, the first thing I do is toss the filter.

You can toss the filter. It gets dirty quickly and adds to the cost of upkeep if you have to pick up pipe cleaners, lighters, fuel, and filters. Skip the filters and smoke to your heart's content.
