placing a special order for Boveda 65% travel packs, group buy

I just thought I would throw this out there. Currently the lowest Boveda travel pack is set at the 69%, I have even had to resort to the 72% when I throw one in for trades when I run out of the 69%.

I have contacted Boveda and they are willing to do a special run and make some 65% travel packs for me/us.

Right now I have asked for at least 100 and that gets me to the standard price of about $0.75 a piece. If we do a larger order the price could drop down (not much) to about $0.65 a piece. With the winter months literally sucking moisture out of everything, to me, $0.75 is a small price to pay to make sure that the cigars that I send out are not stressed with either lower humidity (no pack) or higher humidity (the 69% or 72%).

The above prices are my cost and I just wanted to pass on what I thought was a nice bit of common courtesy when shipping cigars :dunno:

Additionally, I figured if we get enough of these out there, we can just throw them in the coolidor when not shipping and reuse them along with all the trades and bombs that I see happening.

In the winter months, these freeze solid and become absolutely useless in shipping. In the warmer months, cigars sealed in a ziplock can easily last a week without change in humidity level. Shipping across the border on the other hand is a different story and boveda packs may come in to play, otherwise I don't really see a use for them...

no problem, Justin. I never thought about the freezing aspect and appreciate the insight, but will be ordering anyhow.

Do you have any reason to believe that this method would be more harmful than good? If so, I will respectfully retract my order as it will be a few weeks before they are produced anyhow.

No, they will not do any harm as far as I know (unless they leak somehow I would think) but to me it just seems like more than is necessary. Why not just use the 69% ones or the 72%? For the amount of time in the bag I honestly doubt there would be a noticeable difference.

For example, my cigars are stored between 63 and 66%, depending on time of the year. When I go on vacation I grab my travel humi, slap a boveda in (I dont even look to see if its 65, 69 72 or whatever) and throw in my smokes. I can honestly say, I have never picked up a stick and said, I wish I used a 65% packet because these are too moist...

I have had them last a year plus by simply putting them in a ziplock bag. Used them all so not sure how much longer they would last but saw no issues using them after being stored for a year. We sell them at the shop and they sit in a sealed plastic container for a couple months until we sell through them.

Agreed. As long as they still feel liquidy and not crunchy, they're good. The one I got from Ron with my big travel humi is still good after about 10 months.
