  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Please pick me two cigars!

Sorry, I don't know any of these so I can't help too much. Where ever you light them up be sure to sit back and just enjoy the moment. I always like smoking with others that I'm sharing the moment with (especially special occasion smokes).

Oh, Congrats on the new home!

I don't know those cigars either. For a large celebration such a wedding, new home or new baby I think the ultimate celebration smoke is the Opus X "A" damn fine cigar and worth every penny.

Ditto this opinion and I always keep enough Opus X to celebrate the big events in life. Plan ahead for those events and have enough cigars and it's funny how many 'big' events you seem to have because of this type of planning. Life happens to those plan ahead:thinkidea

The Santa Clara is actually a pretty good Mexican stick, but I would go with an Opus X Forbidden X, San Cristobal Monumento, or Ashton ESG 21 year Salute. Special celebrations call for special cigars.

Fancy names and higher price tags don't make a good cigar, and this is especially true for each individuial's tastes. Asking someone to tell you what you like is like asking someone to pick your fav color or food. If you want a "GREAT" cigar for an important event or a celebration, stick with the tried and true and what works best for you. No one knows your tastes as well as you do.

No, but price, reputation and rareity can distinguish between a good cigar and a special cigar, and a special cigar makes for a special event. Nobody here's favorite color is Puke Green and nobody's favorite food is tofu. So, if were arguing over NY Strip or T bone I agree on personal taste, but there are a lot of things that make a steak special besides how good it is. I went with a bud who’s about to deploy to Iraq to his favorite steakhouse for a special dinner. I think I could have made a better a steak on my grill at home, but it wouldn’t of been special, we do that all the time. In this case, driving a stupid distance to pay a stupid price for a good steak made it a special event.

For my 40th birthday bash I put together a selection of cigars that was crazy, and we smoked a wide selection of good to great cigars that weekend. The cigars that we talk about the most are the very old 1930’s Royalist Clear Havana and a Forbidden X cigar in the bottle. Both were good to great, and I’ll probably never get to have another in my life. I don't find myself telling people about the GOF, 100 Anos, RyJ #4 or MC#2 I had, they were all great, but not as special. I agree with the mantra of smoke what you like, like what you smoke, but I have a whole different outlook when it comes to special events and I seek out something as memorable as it is good.

There is indeed a certain pleasure in picking that hard to find cigar out of your humi when you decide to celebrate something. I would agree that i am one of those guys that likes to smoke "special" cigars on special occassions. Sure, i'll remember the special occassion regardless of what i smoke, but if i smoke a special cigar during that special occassions, it's double the pleasure.

But back on topic, for Cigar Tango, the only one of the 4 that i've really ever heard of is #3, the don sebastian, but i know absolutely nothing about it.

Enjoy the special occassion!

Of course..Personal taste and personal preferences are two different things. At least to me.
The willingness to listen to others advice- and to those with more knowledge and experience then me is another.

It was simply an attempt to get others input on the mentions cigars- thats all. I know what i like but am also willing to try new cigars- also on such a special occasion as a new home in a new city.

Take care... and live life!

I haven't smoked an Opi Dopi 'A' since 2000. Had a couple of them back then. You are correct. Very fine cigar.

Well spoken. Sorry but I do not know these cigars other than the CAO and I would rather have the Brazilia or the red label.
