Second follow-up:

Vendor has replied. Since I said that I had wiped off the mold and will wait and see, he apologized, said that mold tends to happen in 5-packs where there is no wood to absorb the moisture, and said to contact him again if I needed further help.

I also smoked one day. It was awesome, though a little grassy and young at the start. So thankfully if it is mold it doesn't seem to have caused any damage. :D

Heh, I found moldy cigars today in a B&M.

I almost bought some partagás shorts when I noticed these small circles of white fuzz. The girl behind the counter didn't seem too much bothered by it.

"Yeah, I'll just brush that off for you."

Based on what I read in this thread, I guess I did wise not buying the moldy shorts. I'm just hoping it doesn't spread to other cigars in their humidor.

I've never seen a Plume-or-Mold thread that was not mold.
Ha, isn't that the truth? On every single cigar bb I've ever seen a thread asking the question.

There's a retailer here whose walk-in is very much overhumidified and the cigars occasionally develop mold. I've pointed it out to him on numerous occasions and he insists it's plume.

As a newb, I'm glad to know that if it's just mold on the wrapper (not on the inside), that it can be wiped off! I might have just thrown the stick out not knowing this...

Yeah tell me about it! Another week and the mold would've gone into the stick and I'd really have to throw them out.

It's been over a month since and the sticks have stayed mold free in 65% rh. :D

How do I tell the difference? Any help would be greatly appreciated. .
White and fuzzy = Mold
White and Crystaline = plume

Grows in spots = Mold
Growns evenly all over the cigar = plume

If the cigar is young = Mold
If the cigar has age = possible plume but not guaranteed

Wipes off easily = mold
Wipes off with some effort = plume

Smoked it, got sick and need antibotics = mold
Smoked it and felt all is right in the world = plume

Blacklights....not just for raves and Pink Floyd posters anymore.

I love how often this is confused even with the vet smokers. My fav smoking buddy went to a shop and found a cigar that wasnt his favorite (AB tempus) covered in "plume", and bought 10. He ran them over to gloat and was amazed when he found out it was mold. Everyone is always on the prowl for any cigar with a "touch of plume"
